Tunis Hager                    1819-1892.  As for those Quebec witches..................Msgr de Laval made a marriage annulment 1657 and 1660.In 1671 Marguerite Le Mercher declared in front of Quebec Prevote that if Perrine Morel had not left France the sieur de la Bobine, seignuer of the village, would have burned her for being a witch and killing his calves and his sheep. But in New France the outcome of the trials were seldom as serious as in France. The execution of Daniel Vuil in 1661 was the only known case of capital punishment suffered for witchcraft and heresy. Usually sentences were mild such as Rene Besnard in Montreal 1660 to making a public apology, whipping and three years service in a galley imposed on Francois Charles Havard de Beaufort in 1742.
