    3. Bonjour Bertrand, I don’t know if any of this will help, but once I started, I had to finish. Apparently I mis-spoke about the Springfield Diocese. That wasn’t established until June 14 1870, so the whole state was under the Diocese of Boston in 1846. The Archives of the Archdiocese of Boston is where these old records are kept. They have a page here https://www.bostoncatholic.org/Offices-And-Services/Office-Detail.aspx?id=12 298 <https://www.bostoncatholic.org/Offices-And-Services/Office-Detail.aspx?id=1 2298&pid=1484> &pid=1484 https://books.google.com/books?id=x701SWintW0C <https://books.google.com/books?id=x701SWintW0C&q=st+anne#v=onepage&q=church &f=false> &q=st+anne#v=onepage&q=church&f=false Page 15 lists the churches with their dates. St John’s Church 1842 https://www.stjohnsworcester.org/ St Ann’s Church, originally called St. Anne’s 1856 https://www.telegram.com/news/20170429/st-anns-foretold-rise-fall-of-downtow n-churches St Paul Cathedral 1869 https://www.cathedralofsaintpaul.com/history Notre Dame de l’Assomtion des Canadiens 1869 https://www.flickr.com/photos/saintetienne/albums/72157668203050198/ St. Anne & Notre Dame have been demolished, but they were French churches. For a civil record, I would suggest the Massachusetts State Archives. The people there are helpful, and hopefully would be able to figure out if there is an actual marriage register for Worcester that would have the normal information – names, address, occupation, parents’ names, and name of the priest who married them [if they married in a church]- rather than this hodge podge of data that is on the ancestry site. It’s possible that “Certificate issued January 2, 1847” is all there is, or it’s possible they were not sorted out before they were filmed. They may also have an actual marriage register for Millbury if the marriage was recorded there, since the ancestry data only has the marriage intentions. Again, maybe that’s all there is? https://www.sec.state.ma.us/arc/arcgen/genidx.htm#1841 Generally speaking, the marriage could be in both Worcester and Millville, although I don’t know when they started recording things in both places for sure. Because the bride lived in Millville and filed the intention there, Millville would have been notified that the marriage was complete assuming the priest returned the record…. Since the marriage actually took place in Worcester, the record will be there as well. They intended to marry, and they did, probably early in 1847. But where is the record? One of the ancestry items below is labelled as the marriage record - This record says the intention was 16 December 1846, but it was actually recorded as 26 December 1846 in Millbury. The record reads Mr. Theophilus Chartier of Worcester and Miss Elizabeth Dumas of Millbury, Intention entered 16 December 1846 and posted at the Town Hall. Certificate issued January 2, 1847. Although this record is labelled as a marriage record, this section of these records is under the section heading of Marriage Intentions. The collection is called Town and City Clerks of Massachusetts. Massachusetts Vital and Town Records, Provo, UT: Holbrook Research Institute (Jay and Delene Holbrook) There are other sections in this collection that are plainly marriage records. They are recorded on a different form and have a place for the parents, and the location of the marriage, etc. I don’t know if these records don’t exist for 1846 Worcester, or if this collection is not complete. Another of these links leads to a transcribed records of Millbury, and just gives the same marriage intention as above. You can find this book here https://archive.org/details/vitalrecordsmil00massgoog/page/n7 As far as Worcester parish records, maybe someone will know what churches were there at that time. Worcester was part of the Diocese of Springfield until 1950. I knew about the «Intention to marry». I was hoping the actual marriage might be found in Millbury or Worcester parish records but I do not have access to them. On this screen on Ancestry, there is a link to an image, but as I have only the .ca subscription, I can't view it. Is it only the «Intention ti marry? Best to you all. Was there a Catholic church in existence one could go to go check records in 1846? -----Original Message----- From: linp219--- via Quebec-Research <quebec-research@rootsweb.com> To: quebec-research <quebec-research@rootsweb.com> Cc: linp219 <linp219@aol.com> Sent: Mon, Aug 26, 2019 06:22 PM Subject: [Q-R] Re: Theophilas Chartier marriage HI Dot, I saw that too, after I had firsts responded to Bertrand. Names were Theophilias Chartier of Worcester and Elizabeth Damas Millbury. Place of marriage Worcester. Going back to 3rd page of records these were records from Worcester. -----Original Message----- From: linp219--- via Quebec-Research <quebec-research@rootsweb.com> To: quebec-research <quebec-research@rootsweb.com> Cc: linp219 <linp219@aol.com> Sent: Mon, Aug 26, 2019 03:13 PM Subject: [Q-R] Re: Theophilas Chartier marriage Hello Bertrand On Dec. 26 1846, the couple filed their intentions to marry, but from whatI read this was not the marriage date.
