    3. Wondering if anyone has access to the St Thomas Catholic Church parish register in Joliette County QC. Keep hitting a brick wall in search of the children of Severin Lafond and Philomene Martineau.  In the 1871 Census for Joliette County household members were reported below in three Ancestry .com searches found for Agnes Lafond - curious why they disagree on family members ages and names? Severin and Philomene were married in 1855 he  would have been 34 and 35  in 1871  so one is left to wonder about the accuracy of any of these three 1871 Canada censuses? In the 1880 U.S. census for Holden MA  I assume children's names were anglicized to Joseph age 19; Sarah 17; Henry 16; Mary 14; Margaret 9; Peter 7; Rosa 4. After the census in 1880 a son James was born in Holden MA September 1880. However I have not yet found the birth/baptismal records of a son Frank Lafond oldest reported Lafond child not shown in the 1871 censuses and also for Isreal, Mathilda, Dozithee, and Jacob . Can anyone member offer assistance with the above baptisms and thoughts on the naming  quandry.     3. Frank, I have sent you a couple of emails with attachments with copies of some of the records you're looking for and links to possibly find the others, as well as a copy of the 1871 census. There were not three census records, but whoever posted the info to ancestry may have copied the information incorrectly. Census records, it must be remembered are only as accurate as the information provided to the census taker. And, if you look at the ages for Severin and Philomene they don't make sense. Their eldest child is 13 and they are listed as 28 - not impossible they had their first child at age 15, but unlikely. Furthermore they are not the same age, he was born 1838, she in 1837. Their marriage record is in St. Thomas - I can send a copy if you do not already have it, but the first child that shows up in the index is Jean Baptiste in 1857. Earlier children, must have been baptised elsewhere. Interesting, that the youngest, unnamed child, on this 1871 census was born in the US (assuming the census info is correct). So they must have gone to the US and then returned. May be what happened with the earlier children too. The 1861 Canada census has Severin , Philomine, Jean Baptiste (listed as Baptiste) and Israel. Makes me wonder if there ever was a Frank, and if so he must have died prior to 1861.Not sure where you got the info you listed for the 1880 MA census, because he most certainly does not show up on that census record. In fact, there is no Frank Lafond anywhere in the 1880 MA census. Hope this helps.     3. Well, the 1871 census is a bit of a mess! The census consists of 92 pages, all done by the same enumerator, but every page has the family number crossed out and changed. The family IS listed 3 different times, perhaps they moved around a lot? I would guess that perhaps neighbors might have been guessing at names and ages. Page 47 as Severin, Family #166 Page 62 as Souverain, Family #221 Page 73 as Souverain, Family #261 And there is a death certificate for Frank Lafond. There were not three census records, but whoever posted the info to ancestry may have copied the information incorrectly. Census records, it must be remembered are only as accurate as the information provided to the census taker. And, if you look at the ages for Severin and Philomene they don't make sense. Their eldest child is 13 and they are listed as 28 - not impossible they had their first child at age 15, but unlikely. Furthermore they are not the same age, he was born 1838, she in 1837. Their marriage record is in St. Thomas - I can send a copy if you do not already have it, but the first child that shows up in the index is Jean Baptiste in 1857. Earlier children, must have been baptised elsewhere. Interesting, that the youngest, unnamed child, on this 1871 census was born in the US (assuming the census info is correct). So they must have gone to the US and then returned. May be what happened with the earlier children too. The 1861 Canada census has Severin , Philomine, Jean Baptiste (listed as Baptiste) and Israel. Makes me wonder if there ever was a Frank, and if so he must have died prior to 1861.Not sure where you got the info you listed for the 1880 MA census, because he most certainly does not show up on that census record. In fact, there is no Frank Lafond anywhere in the 1880 MA census. Hope this helps. From the Your Folks site: Severin Lafond and Philomene Martineau were married on 20 Aug. 1855 in St-Thomas, St-Thomas/Joliette, QC His parents were Felix Lafond and Marie Robillard and her parents were Jean Baptiste Martineau and Esther Gilbert. Children: 1. Jean Baptiste born 12 March 1857 Bap. 13 March 1857 St-Thomas etc. Godparents were Jean Baptiste Martineau and Marguerite Robillard 2. Israel born 26 July 1859 Bap. 27 July 1859 St-Thomas Godparents were Felix Lafond and Esther Gilbert 3. The information for Frank was from his death certificate and was given by an unknown sister. born 1855 (parents married in Aug. 1855) and died in Holden, Mass. in 1904.
