    3. Hello Selma, I found your query in the list archives; it did not arrive by e-mail. Marie's burial record gives her age as 38. But her record of baptism gives her birth as 9 April 1758. By separate e-mail, I will send you an attachment from Bob Chenard's Beauce County index which lists the family of Pierre Bureau and Therese Brunet. But it does not show a death date for Angelique. Al Poulin Date: Sun, 11 May 2014 20:43:14 -0700 (PDT) would someone with Ancestry please check out a burial for me. Marie Bureau died March 1801 daughter of Pierre and Therese Burnet deceased. It is at St-Joseph -de-Beauce #315. I think it says that she is 38 which would have her birth in 1763 about. I have a daughter Marie Louise born 1762 and Marie Angelique born 1764. I have a death date for Angelique. Louise was married to a Pierre Boule so it should have listed her husband not her parents. I think there is a missing child. Selma

    1. Re: [Q-R] Susanne Bureau
    2. Al Poulin
    3. Hi Selma, A minor correction, the death record of Susanne Bureau states her age as 77 years, not 70. It appears that Paul-Olivier Mercier and Joseph Mercier are the same person. A review of Bob Chenard's index of Beauce County records shows that there were three women, Susanne Bureau, who survived to marriage. Only one married a Mercier. Where records were in St. Joseph parish, the husband's name is Paul-Olivier. Where records were in St. François parish, the husband's name is Joseph. In the Mercier + Bureau marriage record at St. Joseph parish, Paul-Olivier is said to be son of parents Augustin Mercier and deceased Félicité Boucher of St. François. The two parishes are immediately adjacent to each other. St. François was the younger parish to the south which had become the natural destination of families migrating from St. Marie and St. Joseph. In time sequence, all Mercier records involving Susanne at St. Joseph occurred before those at St. François. There were several "Joseph Mercier" in the area, but none who could be a stray candidate for this discussion. Joseph Mercier, spouse of Susanne Bureau, died at St. François on 4 Sep 1827. The record indicated his age as "about 50 years," placing his birth at about 1776-1778. Paul-Olivier Mercier was born at St. Joseph on 25 Aug 1778 to Augustin Mercier and Félicité Boucher. His godfather was Paul-Olivier Bourg. The same couple had a son Joseph born at St. Joseph on 3 Mar 1776, who died the next month on 9 Apr. So, for whatever reason, it appears that Paul-Olivier became known as Joseph in later life in St. François parish, possibly in honor of his own father or his deceased infant brother. Parents sometimes officially"recycled" given names of deceased infants to later children. Even while Paul-Olivier was resident in St. Joseph, it is possible that his parents enjoyed an informal habit of calling him Joseph. The parish priest would have retained his official name for record purposes, while the priest in St. François in later years might not have felt the same constraint. I will send you attachments from Bob Chenard's index in a separate email. Al Poulin On May 12, 2014, at 1:02 AM, Roch wrote: > Hi! 1. [Q-R] abt a name
    2. Al Poulin
    3. Hi Annette: Maybe, maybe not. You have two questions here. If Georges in Quebec lived his entire life in a French-Canadian environment and never referred to himself as George, he was not known as George, and I would not treat his name as George in an English context. If he moved into an English speaking environment and chose to refer to himself as George in that context, then I would go along with him. If his French speaking parents moved with him into Ontario or the U.S.A., he may have remained Georges to them forever. I am personally familiar with that dynamic, Francis in State of Maine birth records, and François in parish records. If both versions were actually used for an individual, I would make note of that in my family history. This is the same as the difference between the French Guillaume and the English William. If the record says Georges or Guillaume, I would not "translate" it. That would be an error. But history speaks of William the Conqueror and Guillaume le Conquérant. Then you might ask, did William the Conqueror speak English? Or did Guillaume le Conquérant speak French? Or did he speak Old Norse? Or what? Oh, never mind! Just look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-Norman_language Al Poulin

    3. Several of us BROWNRIGG researchers are trying to find out if Genevieve Brownrigg is in the same line as William, who moved to L'Acadie in 1823. There is supposed to be a will somewhere, and also we are not certain if she stayed in Ireland or if she moved to Quebec. We would appreciate any leads that might be out there!!! Also, just an update on the BROWNRIGG DNA project at Family Tree DNA. We are growing, but would love to have more contributors for better comparisons. If you are a female with BROWNRIGG links the test you should do is the Family Finder test. If you are a male with the last name of BROWNRIGG, you should do the YDNA test, and if you are a male with BROWNRIGG links, you should do the Family Finder test. thanks, m Mary Villalba AZTEC Communications, LLC 303-290-8415 Tele Past Distinguished Governor Rocky Mountain District Kiwanis International "A global organization of volunteers, dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time."
