    3. Actually, the extra copy did not go to the diocese. Each year, the parishes sent a second copy of their registers, known as the civil copy, to a palais de justice, or the Office of the Superior Court in the Judicial District in which the church existed. These pages are helpful: http://www.americanancestors.org/vital-records-in-quebec/ http://search.ancestry.ca/search/db.aspx?dbid=1091 or rather in English: http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=1091 Al Poulin On Jun 9, 2014, at 10:53 AM, Mona Andrée Rainville wrote: > In Quebec, as far as Catholic parishes are concerned, it is. 3. In Quebec, as far as Catholic parishes are concerned, it is. The recent diocese records are not available to the public. But, as you might already know, since 1994 religious records are no longer the legal records in Québec. Births, deaths, and marriages and any other act relating to civil status, such as change of name, change of sex, adoption, etc., are now recorded by the civil authority known as the Directeur de l'État civil. http://www.etatcivil.gouv.qc.ca/en/default.html Mona On 14-06-09 8:25 AM, Lorie Begin wrote: > Does anyone happen to know if it is still a practice, to forward copies, or > the originals of parish records to the diocese involved? > > > Lorie

    3. Thanks to Linnie, Doreen and Roch I'm going over all the names and dates and have one question to start with. I have the following info now on Charles and Monique. Charles Dufour born 16 Nov 1787 - Les Grandes Families PRDH Bapt 1787 married Monique 8 Jan 1811 Monique Barrette born 31 Dec 1784 On Geni 31 Dec 1783 PRDH Bapt 1784 died 17 Dec 1842 On Geni 5 Dec 1842 Assuming PRDH source as the best, I would accept Charles birth date as a good possible date, and I guess that Monique was baptised the same day for PRDH to show the year as 1784 unless the 31 Dec is wrong.
