    3. WATERVLIET -- Four pillars in the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church Cemetery in Watervliet were knocked down by vandals. The pastor of the church says several gates were also damaged. Some parishioners speculate that the vandalism was prompted by the recent violence in Ukraine, but the pastor says he would rather think it's mischief from young people. The church has yet to get an estimate for repairs, but says it could be as much as 2,000.Watervliet cemetery vandalized

    3. New Updates for October 2014 Posted: 8 Jul 2014 7:03PM GMT Classification: Query I was just doing a search within Family Tree Maker 2014 and received this message in the program browser... "We’re making updates that may impact your Ancestry experience. Certain features on Ancestry will have reduced functionality or may not be supported when using Internet Explorer 8 or 9. Check out the recommended browsers for more information. We’re making updates that may impact your Family Tree Maker experience. Starting in October 2014, Ancestry Web Search within Family Tree Maker software will have reduced functionality or may not be supported by Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista or Internet Explorer 8 or 9. Moving forward, Microsoft Windows 7 or 8 will be required for Ancestry Web Search functionality to work properly." Really? Will the update really cripple the FTM 2014? Too bad so sad go buy a newer version of Windows? Can anyone shed some light on this? I don't think it's a way to make happy customers. I bought the software and pay a lot of money for an Ancestry.com subscription. A better update for FTM 2014 would be to divorce Bill Gates and Microsoft and integrate Google Chrome and Maps into the program. Please can anyone from Ancestry offer further information? What do you all think of Ancestry.com's notice that after October you will have to buy a windows 7 or 8 computer in order to use their program correctly? Looks to me like they don't care if you use their programs or not. I think I will probably move on. I had read the notice before and forgot I looked at the recommended browsers and I can't install Internet Explorer 11 because it's too new for my computer but I have Foxfire and it works fine and will remain working. If my money doesn't buy the full package they can give the remainder back and I will not be signing up again either. I'm getting tired of my computer being the guiding force of my life by limiting my ability by the computer I own. If it's online you should be able to get it. That's all the rant I have. I am definitely thankful I did most the hard way (in a book). I only have a few that just don't appear to exist. I've made piece with it. LOL. Time to write the book, make the movie and spend the rest of my life on a beach in Tahiti. Peggy Large UE I'd rather die while I'm living than live while I'm dead Thanks to Jimmy Buffett!

    1. [Q-R] Gaston County historic cemetery markers vandalized
    2. WFlem72706 via
    3. Police in Gaston County are stepping up patrols at two cemeteries after vandals struck this weekend. More than a dozen grave sites were damaged, including one with historical significance for people living in Gaston County. Eyewitness News reporter Dave Faherty learned the vandalism has hit the Stanley community hard. Church members are keeping an eye on the cemetery, which dates back to the late 1800s. Church member James Wright said one grave site is of the last slave born in Gaston County. "That's the oldest. That's a slave marker right there," Wright said. The marker, along with 12 others, was knocked over or damaged at two cemeteries next to each other. They belong to Springfield Baptist and Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Stanley. "I was devastated to see someone with so much hate in them to push over a tombstone like that,” Wright said. “It hurts you inside to see someone do something like that." Valerie McCain has been a member at Springfield Baptist all her life. She said her grandparents along with several aunts and uncles are buried here. "I don't see how an individual could have a heart and do something like that,” McCain said. “If it was their family, I'm sure they wouldn't want anybody disrupting the grave site" Some of the markers damaged belong to veterans who fought during the Korean and Vietnam wars. Wright said his faith allows him to forgive the people who are responsible but only if they come forward. "If they get help, sure, I can forgive them, but they need to stand up and admit what they have done," he said. Gaston County authorities are hoping someone driving by the cemetery on Hickory Grove Road saw something over the weekend and will give them a call. Anyone with information should contact the Gaston County Police Department at 704-866-3320 or Crime Stoppers 704-861-8000.

However, the book "Quebec During the American Invasion 1775-1776," which is the English translation of the BTW journal written in 1776, is very interesting and well worth the money. Jesse - The journal states "Laurent Audet dit Lapointe and Louis Colombe went to the rebels' (Americans') camp this winter and always praised their actions. They played a significant role in last fall's rebellion. At that time, they stood guard in front of the church and at Trou St Patry. They convinced the habitants to follow their example, fearing, so they claimed, that the town's garrison would come to burn their parish." Augustin Blais (1749-p1804), son of Augustin, is simply noted as a "bad subject" by the British (which means he supported the Americans.) What roles did they play in the war? They appear varied but as you said, "most of them never left Quebec." From what I gather, the Americans came to Canada for aid. The government was cracking down on them. Some of the people of Quebec gave them food and shelter. Some of them joined the war? It took me hours to go through the family tree looking for names and I came across three in my tree: Augustin Blais, Laurent Audet and his brother-in-law Louis Columbe.
