    1. [Q-R] Jedediah Hemingway
    2. Dot, Marlene Simmons published a book of births, marriages and deaths at Christ Church Anglican in Sorel, Quebec. 1784-1899. The baptisms of all five Hemingway boys were held at that church. The first four boys: Isaac b 04 Jun 1809, Lock b 01 Nov 1810, John Jesse b 19 Aug 1812 and David b 04 Jan 1814 were baptized in 1816. Jacob Dorge was the fifth child b16 Oct 1816 and he was baptized in 1817. My guess, from years of research, is Jedediah and Mary were born in US - probably Massachusetts. Marriage probably 1808. From piecing together clues I would say the name of Mary is Mara Eve Dorge who died in 1818 and was buried 02 Mar 1818 in Christ Church, Sorel. I am still struggling for proof of Jed's parents - suspect Jabob Hemenway and Sarah Haven of Hopkinton, MA later of Vermont. I would dearly appreciate any information on this family as DNA concluded we descend from the Ralph Hemenway of Roxbury, MA but he cannot be found anywhere prior to a mention of his birth in England and his arrival in Roxbury. I have researched Jed's second marriage to Francoise Thibault and am a direct descendent from their son Jean Marie Hemenway born in Quebec and died in Connecticut. Mary Hemingway Baker

    2. Thanks to all that gave this go! Now, if I can just figure out how to effectively use the new list format. I put Raymond Perrault's comment, in the comment box on the Ancestry record. I attributed it to this list, as well as Mr Perrault. If that's not ok, please let me know, and I'll edit or delete. Thanks again.

    3. This is in fact an "abjuration", or renouncing of another faith to join (or perhaps rejoin) the catholic church. THe key part is "Nous avons reçu la profession de foi catholique de Marilda Tremblay, agée de 19 ans, épouse de John Woods, et l'avons absolvée de l'hérésie et de toute coutume encourue pour cette cause, en présence de ..." She is a heretic no more. 3. The title of the rite is "Abjuration" , My understanding is that is usually means denouncing something: as when the Huguenots abjured their Protestant religion to come to Canada in the 16-1700's. This document needs a more accurate translator to understand specifically what it says, I've never seen one like it. abjure: solemnly renounce (a belief, cause, or claim). I also believe that if it was something imposed by the RC Church, it would have been excommunication not abjure. But I've been known to be wrong before. 3. Hello Dan: I was b/raised in RC faith. As I remember, if she was married a 2nd time (also to a non-Catholic) she would have been dispelled from the RC Church. Bev Can someone give me a hand with this "rite"? She was baptized in the Catholic Church at birth, this is verified with the record. I believe she didn't marry in the Catholic Church (and married a non-Catholic) at the age of abt 16. By the time of this 1894 record, she had at least one child by her marriage. Thanks for any assistance. Dan _______________________________________________

    3. I may have found Joseph's death. At the Cathedral in St. Hycinthe on the 31st of January 1875 they buried in the cemetery of this parish the body of Joseph Audit dit Lapointe widower of Marguerite Beaulac he died on the 29th of the current month at the age (can't make out only 80+) Also in same parish on the 8th of September 1874 buried in this parish the body of Marguerite Beaulac wife of Joseph Audet dit Lapointe renter of this parish (I believe it says died yesterday) I can't quite make the age it is 80+ Regards, Phil > On July 6, 2018 at 12:46 AM franalm via Quebec-Research <[email protected]> wrote: > > > Hi, > I am looking for burial records for Joseph Audet dit Lapointe b. 1783 and his wife Marguerite Chapdelaine dit Beaulac dit Lariviere b. 1792. 3. Hi, I am looking for burial records for Joseph Audet dit Lapointe b. 1783 and his wife Marguerite Chapdelaine dit Beaulac dit Lariviere b. 1792. They were married 1807 in La Présentation-de-la-Sainte-Vierge parish. They are on the 1861 census in Ste. Rosalie with eldest son Joseph and his family. I can find neither they, nor son Joseph and family on any subsequent census. Son Joseph and his wife Mathilde Casavant were buried in 1890 in Saint-Athanase-de-Bleury, Iberville. Son Joseph and wife are listed as being of the parish of Saint-Guillaume-d'Upton on the marriage register for their daughter in 1864. Neither Joseph Sr., nor Marguerite are mentioned in that entry. I've checked the parish indexes for St. Guillame, the St. Hyacinthe area (Notre Dame du Rosaire, Le Confesseur, La Presentation, St. Rosalie, St. Damase, St. Pie, St. Dominique) and the parishes for Iberville area (Saint-Athanase-de-Bleury, St. Jean sur Richelieu, St. Luc, L-Acadie) as well as Henryville that I was advised was a place people from that area might end up. I did find a burial record in Notre Dame du Rosaire in 1871 for a Marguerite Chapelaine dit Lariviere, aged 79 (which would fit). However, she is listed as the widow of Jean Chenet and I have been unable to find a burial record for Jean, nor a marriage record for the two of them. Since she was on the 1861 census with husband Joseph, any marriage to Jean, and his death, would have had to occur between the 1861 census and the 1871 burial. I do realize that entries can sometimes escape inclusion in the indexes - and the possibility exists that I missed the entry in the index. But before I go to the task of trawling the registers page by page I thought I would ask if anyone has any ideas of where else I might look: for the burial of Joseph or Marguerite, or for a marriage for she and Jean and burial for Jean. Thank you,Frances
