There is one, however, that eludes me.  The 1860 census for John and Zoe St John provides a name, a female, name Gulide, Gielide, Geilide, "Gubde", etc., okay it makes no sense to me.  The transcriber for the census data base writes Guelede, which I don't think is supported by the census taker's writing.    Has anyone any idea as to what the census taker thinks is being spoken?    Any French word will do if it makes sense and it need not be a name, but better if it is.  There is an English name, Glade, that they might have used for their US born son,  but I've never seen it used in the family.  So, I nix that option for now. The census was taken in June and "Gulide" is 5 months old, making the birth in January.  This name is never seen again, however, and the birth record for a child of the family is for a boy born 18 January 1860.  There is no given first name for the boy. In the 1970 census, there is a boy, Nicholas, aged 9.  Given the flexibility on census ages, the Jan 1860 boy could be Nicholas, but if he is indeed "nine", he would be an 1861 birth leaving plenty of time for a separate child born in 1860. Vermont is pretty well known for having good records, but,  something or someone is missing, perhaps. What are you thoughts? Putting the full family together has been fraught with issues significantly due to the census records taken of the family in the first few decades of their life in the United States. The census records have been hilarious, to say the least, where the census taker is writing down what they think they are hearing. But, keeping in mind that names are being heard and not necessarily what are being spoken has allowed the family to come together. There is one, however, that eludes me. The transcriber for the census data base writes Guelede, which I don't think is supported by the census taker's writing. Has anyone any idea as to what the census taker thinks is being spoken? 1. [Q-R] Re: Help on Identifying Canadian Family - Dellenaire St Jean
    2. Fran, Yes, you have the current facts as stated in genquebec and family search. The problem is that the Elizabeth that is shown as the daughter in the below genquebec reference is shown by the PRDH to have married someone entirely different - Joseph Codere, not my Noel Frechette that you correctly mention below. She was married to Joseph in May of 1849, but by July 1850 he would had to have died and she would have had to move to Worcester, Mass. , met a new love, courted, gotten engaged and married. For, July 1850 is when my Elizabeth St Jean married Noel Frechette. It's not looking real well for the connection in family search. Both were born in Canada (all this I knew) Parents of Betsey St John are Dellmaire (Delenaire) St John and Agnes. (All new) Initial search for a Dellenaire and Agnes on GenQuebec came up with zero. Any help in pinpointing this couple? I'd much appreciate it.
