Thank you for this very thorough answer. They intended to marry, and they did, probably early in 1847. But where is the record? One of the ancestry items below is labelled as the marriage record - This record says the intention was 16 December 1846, but it was actually recorded as 26 December 1846 in Millbury. The record reads Mr. Theophilus Chartier of Worcester and Miss Elizabeth Dumas of Millbury, Intention entered 16 December 1846 and posted at the Town Hall. Certificate issued January 2, 1847. Although this record is labelled as a marriage record, this section of these records is under the section heading of Marriage Intentions. The collection is called Town and City Clerks of Massachusetts. Massachusetts Vital and Town Records, Provo, UT: Holbrook Research Institute (Jay and Delene Holbrook) There are other sections in this collection that are plainly marriage records. They are recorded on a different form and have a place for the parents, and the location of the marriage, etc. I don’t know if these records don’t exist for 1846 Worcester, or if this collection is not complete. Another of these links leads to a transcribed records of Millbury, and just gives the same marriage intention as above. You can find this book here https://archive.org/details/vitalrecordsmil00massgoog/page/n7 As far as Worcester parish records, maybe someone will know what churches were there at that time. Worcester was part of the Diocese of Springfield until 1950.
