MY husbands grandfather, Joseph CADY was an engineer and I believe for a railroad in the Middlesex, VT area because that's where he lived at his death. He also lived in major VT railroad towns according to his childrens birth certificates such as Fairfax, Jericho, St Albans, VT. I cannot find where he was born in Canada but that's what his marriage license says he was born. I went to the Washington, VT probate and found that his wife had filed for probate and listed was a gold pocket watch, which I think may have come at his retirement. I didn't know if there would be a list of who the railroad gave them to and when. He died at 74 years of age in March of 1920 from the flu in Worester, VT. Hi Harriet; It might help if you gave us a bit more info. For example, what was the name of Joseph's wife, and where were they married,?Doesn't the marriage licence give the names of his parents? Harriet - I answered about the railroad to another list - apparently you posted to a few different places. Do you have any census sheets for Joseph? The reason I'm asking is after I looked at a few, the Joseph who was the engineer had a wife Harriet, and says he was born in NY. His wife was Harriet. There is another Joseph in the 1920 census - wife Elinore - he was born in Canada. and he was 74 in that census, but I'm wondering if he is the right guy?
