I found The White and the Gold by Thomas B. Costain to be very readable and informative. It's an older book, but it might be in your local library or you could check www.abebooks.com for a copy. I also found W.J Eccles' The French in North America 1500-1783 to be very good. You should be able to buy a copy from Amazon. Both books are in English. Hope this helps.
