    3. Hello, I have been still trying to find out about the only one of my great-grandfather's family who did not migrate to Boston, MA, in the late 1800's. Robert KERR and Elizabeth HENDERSON (b1827 Gore) (first cousins) married in 1851 and had five children. My great-grandfather was William Robert KERR, b1852. Robert and Elizabeth then had two daughters, Hannah "Jane" KERR and Mary Ann KERR, and then two sons, Robert KERR and Joseph KERR. In the early 1870's, William and his sister, Mary, migrated to Boston, MA, and both married in nearby Everett, MA. In the 1890's (?) the parents and two younger brothers migrated to Boston, the parents dying here a few years later. For a couple of years I couldn't find out what happened to Hannah Jane KERR, b1854 Gore. My "guess" is that she had either married and remained in Canada or died young. A year ago I found out that there was a couple in Eaton Township, Compton County, which could have been my "Jane" KERR and her husband - William H. SMITH. But, I've seen that researchers disagree as to which Jane KERR this lady was (out of several born around the same time). One researcher believes that she came from Island Brook. The 1881 Census has William and Jane SMITH with son, Henry, 2. The 1901 Census has William and Jane SMITH with daughter, Gertrude, 19. When they married in 1877, William SMITH was a farmer in Cookshire in Compton County, but he was born in Eaton. They had their son, Henry SMITH in Apr. 1878, and their daughter, Gertrude SMITH, in Aug. 1882. ..Last night I went to the Archives of the QC-Etanglo List and found two postings from Jan. 2000. One person quoted some of the above information from the "History of Compton County." Another person offered information from "parish records from Eaton." One item was the marriage of George W. SMITH and Jane COATES in Aug. 1854. With that information, I went to the LDS site and found George SMITH in the 1881 Census living in Eaton Township with his wife and three adult-children: George SMITH, 56, Jane SMITH, 49, Sheldon SMITH, 24, Jessie SMITH, 22 (f), and Hibbard SMITH, 18. ..William SMITH, 25 and married in 1881, could very well have been their older son. (I also found a George W. SMITH, Age 25 (bCAN) in 1881 in Michigan/USA, who could have been a son in the above family.) To get back to William's wife, Jane KERR, one researcher has this lady as the daughter of Robert KERR and Margaret HENDERSON and being born in Jan. 1846. But, if you go by the ages of Mrs. Jane SMITH in the 1881 and 1901 Census reports, she should have been born in either 1852 or 1853. My Hannah "Jane" KERR was born in Aug. 1854, and my opinion is that she would have been closer in age to Mrs. SMITH than the other Jane KERR. (There was another Hannah Jane KERR, also born in 1846, who was the daughter of William KERR and Elizabeth BEATTIE. (The two ladies born in 1846 were born or baptised two weeks apart.) And, this Hannah KERR reportedly married William WOODS.) FYI: I believe that the Robert KERR and Margaret HENDERSON were not directly related to the Robert KERR and Elizabeth HENDERSON, having arrived at different times, and settled in different towns. But, that is still being researched, I believe. FYI: My great-great-grandparents, Robert and Elizabeth KERR, had moved out of Gore Township and lived in both Morin Heights and Mille Isles at different times, and I believe that they moved to NewPort, Compton County, in the 1870's (?) as they were in the 1881 Census there (with just their two younger sons). FYI: I see the COATES surname mentioned every now and then. In addition to the reference to Mrs. Jane (COATES) SMITH, the "parish records of Eaton" mention the marriage of a Joseph COATS and Mary MAYNARD in Apr. 1844. QUESTION: A few years ago, I heard that there was a well-known resort in LaChute, Argenteuil County, named "the KERR Farm." It is mentioned in a history booklet about the town. Does anyone know whether that "KERR resort" is still run as a "place to stay?" (I understand there are still KERR descendants living in that area.) Thank you for your time.
