    1. Quebec Lodge medallion - HANNAH
    2. Greetings, listers. Some of you may already know that I have a wonderful retirement job in a Carmel antique shop - it is SO MUCH FUN bopping around among all the interesting and beautiful objects and talking about them - I can't seem to get tired of it. And what should come in the other day but a giant locket-type decoration and ribbon combination, dated 1912, clearly intended to be worn on a gentleman's evening jacket lapel. The word QUEBEC of course caught my eye - but I need help understanding the rest of it. Any comments or suggestions will be very welcome! Here's the description: The "locket" is a big metal oval - clearly sterling silver and so stamped, with a gold wash. It is more than 2" tall, 1 and a half inches wide, and about 1/2 inch deep. There is a circle of cobalt blue enamel in the center of the top surface which has a silver cornucopia superimposed. This innner circle lifts out to reveal a cavity the size of the whole piece - for snuff? Compromising letters? Who knows! Around the outside of the inner circle are big letters: GRAND LODGE OF QUEBEC, CANADA. This locket-shaped object hangs from a wide cobalt blue ribbon that is crossed by three ornamented silver bars, with a 3 inch long straight pin at the top of the back - which I assume would anchor the piece on the lapel. The whole piece is a bit more than 5" tall if it were pinned in place. The reverse of the locket is crowded with handsome engraving executed by a skilled hand - quite clear except as noted. It says: PRESENTED TO HON. [?] BRO. JOS. [could be JAS.] HANNAH as a mark of esteem by the members of ST. ANDREWS LODGE No. 53, Q.R.A.F. & M. on the occasion of the 40th anniversary: l892-1912. What lodge is this, do you think? Masonic, maybe? If anyone knows (or has a good guess!), please let me know. I am at the eMail address - VCrawf@aol.com - or you can write me c/o the list if you think others will be interested. Thank you! Salut to all, Ginny Crawford in California - a descendant of Louis GUERTIN dit le Sabotier, a lot of FRASERs, a lot of CHINIQUYs, PERRAULTs, and so on.
