Hi Gary; Caspar DAUT-DAUTH was a German soldier who came over during the American Revolution, His parents were Balthazar DAUT-DAUTH and Catherine SAINTHAUSSER who were from Resseheur (or Rosheim) in Alsace, as confirmed in the book by Virginia Easly DeMarce "The Settlement of Former German Auxiliary Troops in Canada after the American Revolution" and by Mr. Séguin in his articles entitled "L'Apport germanique dans le peuplement de Vaudreuil et de Soulanges", page 43, Recherches Historiques, 1957, Vol. 63, no. 2, and also in the PRDH. There was a lot of confusion when writing the names DAOUST and DAUTH, but in the above case, the name was originally DAUTH. D'AOUST may have come into use with later generations along with other variations. Frank .
