Fran, You have posed a question that still has people baffled to this day, but here is what I believe, as do many others - The Anne Martin you have born 23 Mar 1620/21 (I have her born "About 1614") who Married to Jean Cote is likely *(Note I say likely, not confirmed)* the daughter of Abraham Martin and a first wife, who may or may not be Guillaumette Couillard. There is some controversy here, but basically what is believed is that Abraham arrived in Canada around 1619 (because there were no landings in 1614 - a lot of people have it as his arrival year). When Abraham arrived, he already had with him a daughter, Anne, a wife, Margeurite. The Anne Martin who married Jean Cote's death certificate states she died 4 Dec 1684 at "about 80 years old", and two Census' of Quebec (1666 &1667) say she was 63 and 64 years old, respectively. So your 1st Anne Martin would have been too old to be the daughter of Margeurite Langlois. However, Abraham married Marguerite Langlois in 1620/21 , and they did have a daughter Anne Martin (your #2) who you have born 23 Mar 1644/45. I believe this is the one you have marrying Jacques Rate.... of that marriage I don't know. PRDH can have their data stating the parents of Jean Cote and Anne Martin, married 17 November-1635- at Québec are UNKNOWN and that's fine. There has been other credible research done by professionals and they believe it's likely that Anne Martin was either Abraham's daughter from a 1st marriage, or a younger sister - something - anything but Margeruite Langlois' daughter PRDH is wonderful, but it's not going to give you any leads, folklore, legend, speculation, etc., nor do their facts allow you to do further research, especially with definitive words like "UNKNOWN."
