Hi Linda, I was reminded on the List about the Quebec Family History Society, and I decided to investigate it. I found out it is expensive to join, but they do allow non-members to post a query in their journal. So, I mailed my "query" to them, with a small check. I wanted to mention that the residents in Argenteuil County has not been mentioned on the List in a long time. People arrived there from at least 1820. My KERR and HENDERSON ancestors arrived there in 1823 and 1824, and I'm told a few of their descendants still live there. They came as a family-group of 4 couples and a single lady who married in Canada. They had many children and thus had many descendants. Many researchers have not been able to find out who their parents were back in County Sligo, Ireland ! I wanted to mention that there is a List for "the former Township of Gore" where my ancestors initially settled. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) P.S. I'm also interested in the CORKILL / CORKHILL surname. The maiden name of my great-grandmother was Mary CORKILL. She was born in 1860 in Liverpool, England, and was one of 6 siblings who became "British Home Children" in the 1870's. She and the younger siblings settled in Nova Scotia families. Their older brother went directly to British Columbia. P.S.2 Just wanted to mention that one of my mother's sisters married into a MAITLAND family near Boston, MA. P.S.3 I just noticed all the Lists in your TO line. I wasn't aware of some of them. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda Maitland" <[email protected]> To: "QBC-MONTREAL-L" <[email protected]>; "CAN-MONTREAL-IRISH-L" <[email protected]>; "QUEBEC-RESEARCH" <[email protected]>; "QUEBEC-L" <[email protected]>; "QUEBEC-HESSIANS-L" <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, February 06, 2007 1:39 AM Subject: [QUEBEC] West Coast Quebec Group - Vancouver, BC - February 10, 2007 > > The West Coast Quebec Genealogy Group is meeting on > Saturday, February 10, 10:00 - noon > in the upstairs room at the BCGS Resource Centre > 12837-76th Avenue, #211, Surrey, BC > 604-502-9119 > > We're an informal group of amateur genealogists who research in a > variety of areas - Filles a Marier, Filles du Roi, Carignan-Salieres > Regiment, Acadians, Hessians, UEL, French-Canadians, as well as > Scots, English and Irish in Quebec. > > If you live in the Vancouver area or if you're going to be in the > area, come and meet other researchers, and share your successes, > brick walls and resources in an informal group setting. > > Dates of future meetings: March 10, April 14, May 12, June 9, July 14, > August 11 > > There's a small drop-in fee which goes towards purchasing > Quebec resources (Drouin films, CDs, repertoires, books, etc) > which are housed in the BCGS library. > > If you'd like more information, please e-mail me. > > Linda > > Linda Maitland, nee Maguire > White Rock, BC > > >
