Many pages were enumerated in French, but transcribers attempted to transcribe in English -- without accents which change a word. Also, as in Nova Scotia French areas, a woman may keep her maiden name after marriage -- the children would have the father's surname. On some pages the transcriber used the ditto marks and thus the children have the maiden surname of the mother. Please would anyone reading this go over the pages where you know the surnames -- handwriting is not the best -- but acquaintance with a name is a great help. Old telephone books, other items from your library -- anything that would assist you. Checking the 1901 census and linking the families is great but many do not know how to do this.
