His father was John Colby, born in Massachusetts and his mother was Marie-Josephte LaMare born in Quebec. The family moved to New Hampshire in October 1760. When John Colby's will was proved 5 Mar 1800 in Sandown, New Hampshire, mention was made of his son, Jean Baptiste Colby, who would receive an inheritance if he ever returned from Quebec. He never returned. The name might have been spelled "Colbie". I would like to find out if there is any record of his returning to Quebec, marriage, descendants, etc. ------------------------------------- Possible Problem two: Also, a Joseph Colby, born in 1817/18 in Quebec has turned up in New Hampshire married sometime in the 1860's to Sarah born 1840 and having children: Lewis Edward, Julianne, Amos D., Jeremiah Timothy, Mary R., and Adelia. All the children except the last were born in New Hampshire or Vermont. Adelia was born in Quebec in 1879. The family is on the 1881 in Hatley, Stanstead, Quebec.
