Hi Lynn, According to www.behindthename.com it is the female version of the name Aloysius. I don't know of an english equivalent, so she may have been called Aloysia. Aloysius is seen periodically - I have one in my tree. In the records I have found for him, he seems to have gone by that name all the time.
