Hi Michael Children born out of wedlock were very often recorded when they were baptized as "ne de parents inconnu" Born of unknown parents. But sometime one parent was name and the other one "inconnu" Unknown. And sometime one of the parent or both were the Godparents:) Maybe your great grandmother married twice, first to a Barselou and then to Dan H Mc Alonce. This is interesting. I just looked up the 1897 marriage, at Saint Ann Montreal, my great grandfather is indexed as Dan H McAlonce in ancestry.com index. It does list Clement and Cesarie as Alexandrina's parents, but perhaps they are grand parents or some other relation, seems more likely, I agree. I should not be so quick to say that, as my own father was 50 and mother 46 when I was born! HHmm. However I will check St Cunegonde for Mary Alexandrines in 1879 to some other last names, like Barselou. Seeing as she would have siblings born in the early 1850s, I thought 1879 sounded late to be a sibling of Clements children. Thank you so much for looking. I appreciate your help. I just want to figure this out. As I was growing up, I was told that my great grandmother Lefebvre was part Cree Indian. I have traced all branches of her parents families (Clement and Cesarie, if they are her parents) back to French immigrants and I see no indication of Metis ancestry. So If these are not her actual parents I can understand that now. How were illegitimate children recorded in the church records back then? Thanks to anyone who helps me sort this out, Michael ----- Original Message ----- From: Renee Cummings<mailto:rcummi1123@rogers.com> To: quebec@rootsweb.com<mailto:quebec@rootsweb.com> ; mmcalonie@msn.com<mailto:mmcalonie@msn.com> Sent: Friday, December 04, 2009 8:51 PM Subject: Re: [QUEBEC] looking for some charity- Lefebvre Michael, I found this in BMS Probably siblings of your great grandmother Adele Lefebvre d/o Clement & Cesarie Martin mar. This might help you find her in that area. If her mother was born in 1829 she would have been 50 when Mary-Alexandrine was born in 1879 so I think it's the wrong year and maybe it was the year of her marriage in 1879 (See Marie above) Please check your note to verify the info you gave us. Something doesn't seem to add up here-( Good luck Renee -----Original Message----- From: quebec-bounces@rootsweb.com<mailto:quebec-bounces@rootsweb.com> [mailto:quebec-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Michael McAlonie Sent: Friday, December 04, 2009 6:51 PM To: Quebec List Subject: [QUEBEC] looking for some charity- Lefebvre Hello, In all these years I have never been able to find my great grandmothers baptism in Quebec. I would have tried the PRDH but it says it stops at 1799. I tried all sorts of angles searching the indexes and any close matched page images on ancestry.com for the Drouin collection. Her name was some form of Mary Alexandrine Lefebvre. I have seen Alexandrine spelled Alexandrina also, and I have seen her recorded as just Alexandrina at times also. Per her NYS death certificate she was born August 15, 1879. Her parents were Clement Lefebvre born 1825 in St Phillippe (I don't have my notes in front of me) and her mother was Cesarie Martin (also Son dit St Martin) who I think was born in St Constant in 1829. They lived in St Phillippe and were married at St Remi I believe. I have found all the info for her parents, and their ancestors, but not for her. Her 1942 death certificate said she was born in Montreal, but it said her parents were born in Montreal also which was not ! the case. She did get married in Montreal in 1897 however, I believe at St Anns in Griffintown where my great grandfather DH McAlonie was a member. Every document I have seen says she was born in Canada, however, her family was located in Troy, NY by the 1880 US census, in which her father is indexed as Clements Lefebre, and, according to the kids names and dates, I cant clearly tell which one is supposed to be her. Perhaps she was adopted? Name Age
