Check this interesting page at URL http://search.ancestry.com/Browse/view.aspx?dbid=1110&path=S.St-Basile.1792-1837.44&sid=&gskw=&cr=1. Looks like there were no sacraments performed at St-Basile between 1799 and 1803, if I read it correctly (I never attended French school, unfortunately). They were covered at St-André as suggested in another post. I checked 1800 (24 pages) St-André and nothing. Looks as though the priest "covered" things by performing late baptisms, and he got the birth days incorrect for one or both of them. It would seem likely that since he had exact month and days, that one was off by a year. Probably asked how old each was then subtracted incorrectly. So my plan is to use the Simon Thibodeau birth date with explanation. It would seem Firmin/Fermin was the older brother; perhaps he was born in 1799 (I'll check PRDH). Thanks for an interesting and helpful discussion on this. There is o reason given in the record for the second baptismal ceremony. However, ccording to my own experience of nearly 40 years of priesthood, I am quite ure the reason was that the records kept by Messire Vezina, missionary were ither deteriorating or difficult to read. This was not simply a transcription f the previous record, as indicated by the fact that, in addition to the marks + } of some of the participants who were unable to sign their own names, there are names written ut in a different hand than Father Hott. r John L -----Original Message----- rom: Russell Dorr <russelldorr@yahoo.com> o: QUEBEC-L@rootsweb.com ent: Tue, Mar 16, 2010 8:08 pm ubject: [QUEBEC] Baptisms at St-Basile Madawaska n this page, there are two baptisms of two sons of Joseph Thibodeau & rie-Josephte Coté, one for Firmin Thèodule, the other for Simon Maxime, both 18 Mar 1806. What is odd is that it seems Firmin was born 12 Jan 1800, Simon 28 Jul 1800. Can anyone figure out what is going on here?
