    3. "Mom" Smith is correct in saying that it is impossible for a woman to give birth twice within six months unless the second one is premature. On the other hand, a woman can become pregnant as soon as she has ovulated, which can occur 4 to 6 weeks after giving birth. [Not to mention that pregnancy can -- and does -- immediately after menarche]. Turning to the topic of my expertise (sacraments): An infant born prematurely at home in the 17th -- 19th century would have been "ondoyé" (provisionally baptised) by the midwife, and brought to the church as soon as possible (which, in wintertime, might have been several months later) for the other rites of baptism to be performed. A infant who was stillborn would have been "ondoyé", and that fact would have been recorded in the burial record. The record also indicates that Firmin Theodule was born on 12 anuary 1800, Simon Maxime on 28 July of the same year, and that both were aptised during that year by Messire Francois Vezina, missionary there at hat time. There is no reason given in the record for the second baptismal eremony. However, according to my own experience of nearly 40 years of riesthood, I am quite sure the reason was that the records kept by Messire ezina, missionary were either deteriorating or difficult to read. This was ot simply a transcription of the previous record, as indicated by the fact hat, in addition to the marks [ + } of some of the participants who were unable to sign their own names, there are names ritten out in a different hand than Father Hott. r John L -----Original Message----- rom: Russell Dorr <russelldorr@yahoo.com> o: QUEBEC-L@rootsweb.com ent: Tue, Mar 16, 2010 8:08 pm ubject: [QUEBEC] Baptisms at St-Basile Madawaska n this page, there are two baptisms of two sons of Joseph Thibodeau & rie-Josephte Coté, one for Firmin Thèodule, the other for Simon Maxime, oth 18 Mar 1806.
