    3. Hello, I am trying to trace my fathers maternal lines back to a female immigrant. I recently had his MTdna tested and he is haplogroup "H". Please bear with me, I know very little about dna and have quickly pulled together what I have from the ancestry.com, the internet, google, etc. I can maternally trace him back to the marriage of Joseph Duphaut and Marguerite Lafay in 1792, daughter of Francois LaFay (LaFaille also I believe) and Margurite (La)Forest. That is where the waters muddy. The LaFay/ Forest marriage was apparently done in 1767 in the American Colonies with a Justice of the Peace but was then "rehabilitated" with a priest in L'Acadie in 1792. No parents names given apparently. I poked around on google and have seen different Marguerite Forests listed as Francois' wife. I saw the Marguerite Forest baptisms listed at the An Acadian Parish Remembered website: The most common spouse seems to be listed on the internet as: Marguerite Forest born 1748 to Jacques Forest and Marie Joseph Le Prince. When I trace her back her farthest maternal ancestor is Jeanne Chebrat who is haplogroup "HV" according to Lucie Consentino's website page for mtdna. However, according to one post I read on the internet, Marguerite Laforest's 1819 burial record in Ste Marguerite de Blairfindie L'Acadie states her age as 71, which would be YOB of ca. 1748. I found that document but cannot read French to verify this. And I have seen quite a few death records with wrong ages. Marguerite Forest born 1753 to Jean Forest (son of Rene Forest) and Anne Richard, daughter of Pierre Richard and Magdelaine Girouard, daughter of Jacques Girouard and Marguerite Gauterot. Her farthest maternal ancestor is Edmee LeJeune who is listed on Lucie's site as haplogroup "U6A" Marguerite Forest born 1725 to Joseph Forest (son of Rene Forest) and Marie Guilbault, daughter of Charles Guilbaut and Anne Bourg. Her farthest known maternal ancestor is Michelle Aucoin. Her haplogroup is "H" and a match to my father. The last one and the one I think seems more age appropriate is: Marguerite Forest born 1740 to Mathieu Forest (son of Rene Forest) and Magdelaine Guilbault, I think a sister of Marie Guilbault and also a direct maternal line descendant of Michelle Aucoin, and the same haplogroup as my father. I'd be glad if any one could correct or add to any of this, and say which one of these Marguerite Forests is the correct one. I'd appreciate any help or comments you might offer. Thank you! Best Regards, Michael
