Oh, you forgot the II, III and IV's. LOL My brother is a second and my husband is a Jr. When his father passed away, he remained a Jr. You normally don't move up a notch because someone died. My brother is still II though our grandfather passed away. At least my brother stopped with the name. He didn't carry it on with his son. And if Senior #1 dies, do they all move up a peg, and get called something different then??? Too confusing.......
The French rarely (if ever) use Jr. or Sr. or call their children the 1st... 2nd... and so on. I really think it's a matter of personal preference....but I didn't "prefer" it!!! In my family, my dad had his father's name as HIS middle name. My mother named my firstborn brother using our dad's name as my brother's middle name. I did the same thing with my firstborn son. I gave him his own name and then used my husband's name as HIS middle name. When I had another son, I gave him my DAD's name as his middle name! Only had the two sons, so I didn't have to do anything else with middle names for boys!!! mas -----Original Message----- From: quebec-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:quebec-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Sue J Sent: Wednesday, January 20, 2010 5:03 PM To: quebec@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [QUEBEC] Strange marriage entry - Pierre CHORET 1686 Oh, you forgot the II, III and IV's.
