According to the death registration for Alexander Gough he was born in Gananoque, Roman Catholic - but no reference given as to his parents. At the time of his death he lived at Hunter Street in Peterborough. I could not locate the death registration for Eliza Gough nee McMahon at the date and location you gave. I searched through all death registrations in Peterborough during month of August 1891 but there was no Gough and no McMahon entry.
