    3. I suspect you are right in a lot of cases. And also, parents kind of "made arrangements" sometimes for their kids to marry someone. There were also planned marriages, whereby both parties brought something to the marriage, like land, etc. Personally, I prefer having had the choice of the man I really WANTED! I can remember a couple dates I had when I was younger, and my mother and his mother would think it would be cute if we got together.... Well, the mothers might have had a lot more in common than their kids did with each other!!! -----Original Message----- From: quebec-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:quebec-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of D. Women didn't work outside the home in those days and occupation choices were marriage, religious life, domestic, teaching or nursing; office work was done by men from mailroom to secretary. Those women who had worked in munitions plants during the War were out of work after 1918. Many widowed women with children would place them in an orphange during the week and would earn money as domestic. Marrying someone you barely knew must have seemed like the only safe choice for many. Survival took precedence over love and romance. Just my thoughts...... Cheers!
