    3. Good morning Don; Your George Gray was buried in Mount Hermon Protestant Cemetery, Chemin St-Louis, Sillery, Qc. Protestants of all denominations were buried there starting in 1848 to about 1904. He's buried in section "G" of the cemetery. If you want the source, search with GOOGLe "BANQ" (Bibliothèque et Archives Nationales du Québec) that's the web site for the Province of Quebec Archives. The site can be searched in English. Once that's done, you see a menu on the left side of the Home site. Click on "Online Research tools" and you'll see the heading for the Mount Hermon Cemetery. Just follow the instructions. If you have a problem,.let me know. Frank Watters P.S. According to both the church and the Cemetery data, George drowned on 2 June 1889, not 5 May 1889. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don Fox" <don@donfox.co.uk> To: <QUEBEC@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 14, 2009 9:45 AM Subject: [QUEBEC] George Gray (b 1847 Aboyne, Scotland) > George Gray was a steward on the SS Stanley which sailed from Prince > Edward > Island to mainland Canada. 1. [QUEBEC] Murphy family
    2. Christine Tomberlin
    3. My ancestors, John Clark(e) and Mary Hill emigrated from Tullamore, Ireland to Perth, Ontario about 1821-1822. John was given land in Bathurst, Lanark Co. after being discharged from the British army after the war of 1812. They had six children: Thomas, John Jr., Elizabeth (Betsy), Sarah (Sally), William, and Rebecca. Daughter Elizabeth Clark(e) married John Murphy who was born in Ireland to William Murphy and Elizabeth Conton. Their family church was St. John the Baptist in Perth and I have records of baptisms, marriages, and deaths from the church. They had ten children. The tenth was Michael Francis Murphy. After John died, Elizabeth emigrated from Ontario to Rome, New York with her two youngest children, Michael Francis and Mary. In New York, Michael Francis met and married Jennie S. Burns. I wondered if anyone else is researching any of these families? Christine Murphy Tomberlin

    3. Hello, Just looked at the Quebec Parish records available at pilot.familysearch. org. Very nice scanned images of microfils available. Looked for St-Marie and did find 3 Sainte-Maire's but no Ste-Marie Ely. Valcourt has St-Joseph-d'Ely. These images start at 1854. There is also a Saint-Elie-d'Orford(in Orford another town nearby to Valcourt) as well with records starting at 1887. What you can do when looking for the right town and church at the pilot.familysearch.org is pull up a map of teh are on Goodgle maps or other map site and expand your search out. this is what I have been doing and this has been really helpful to do since I have never been to Canada and it is helpful to learn the various towns in the region where the ancestors were before moving to the newer inhabited regions of Quebec. It has been such a pleasure to look at the registers in the comfort of my own home instead of cranking those microfilm readers! Plus your not as hurried as you are when you at the FHC libraries. I have been fortunate to find other missing ancestors when searching for another! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Edward Cusson" <cussed@comcast.net> To: <QUEBEC@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, December 10, 2009 4:17 PM Subject: [QUEBEC] Church records > Hello Everyone; > > > I am looking for the church records of > > > Ste. It's fun to think someone thought of bringing it back - and in English!! The tale was called "La Chasse-galerie" in French Here's a blurb I found on the Net: "The Christmas Canoe Shelley Posen Illustrated by Magdalene Carson Père Noël brings Christmas to the snowbound crew of an old-time Ottawa Valley lumber shanty. He arrives in a giant flying canoe packed with Christmas goodies, propelled by elf voyageurs. Shelley's story is a turnabout of the classic Quebec folktale, La Chasse-galerie, rendered in perfect rhyming verse à la Robert W. Service. Magdalene Carson's witty illustrations delight the eye. You can almost feel the cold of the swirling snow, the warmth of the shanty's camboose fire, the breezy eddies of Père Noël's great canoe as it passes overhead. /The Christmas Canoe/ blends old and new, fact and fancy, and the lore of the Ottawa Valley's Irish and French communities, to create a charming new traditional tale you can read with your family at any season.
