If you post your question on the "British Home Children" List, you will probably get some information.   There is a researcher / professor on that List who is very knowledgeable about the "sending agencies." (There is also a BHC Board.)     * And, you can search on-line for either  "British Home Children" or  "Home Children, Canada" to find web sites about them. Betty           (near Lowell, MA, USA) * I'd also like to mention that I requested a new Message Board to go along with my  CAN-USA-Migration List a couple months ago.    The Help Desk decided to start up 2 Boards instead, with both gatewayed to that List. 3. Can anyone help me with the marriage of James Charles Akin born circa 1830 in New Glasgow, Terrebonne, Quebec and Mary Ann Steen born circa 1832. She died in Sandwich (Windsor), Essex, Ontario 15 July 1855 after the birth of her second child another Mary Ann. Her first child, my grandfather, William James Akin was born 7 Feb 1854 in Montreal. James's parents Thomas and Elizabeth Gamble Akin came from County Tyrone 1826-28 and several children were baptized at St. Gabriel's Presbyterian church in Montreal. However, James's second marriage to Ann Eliza Benn and his father Thomas's second marriage to Jane Jemima Young were both at St James Methodist in Montreal. I would also like the marriage of Mary Ann Akin who was born July 1855. Dorthy Akin Jens, Evans, GA

    3. Hi Sheila, There are 3 "Home Children" data bases that I know of. The one just mentioned is one of them. They can be found under the "Immigration and Emigration" category. ----- Original Message ----- From: "SHEILA FOREMAN" <sheila_foreman@btinternet.com> To: <quebec@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 08, 2010 1:13 PM Subject: [QUEBEC] Possible child migrant Does anyone have any information about children sent from Irish institutions in the early 20th century please? The 1st person with the Gould name I will discuss, was a horse dealer and trader by the name of Rou Gould (Mr Gould to us kids) who lived in the house right next to the said bridge on the north side of the Union Village Bridge back in the late 40's until he died in the late 6-'s or early 70's. The Town of Thetford may have some town records on the gentleman that might be available to you upon request. He was a real nicve fellow and from what I remember, he could determine the worth of a horse and how good it was just by l;ooking at them, let alone checking them over by a close inspection of the physical condition, including their eyes, teeth and so forth. He was the agent that we used to rent out our orses to the summer camps up around Lake Fairlee, Lake Morey and to the Summer camps over in New Hampshire, up behind Piermont and over near Mt Cube near Lyme, NH. How I know is becasue with my mother (who was an expert horse woman and many Blue Ribbons at the fairs with horses), another young boy, I use to ride one and lead from 2-5 horses to the summer camps from the farm in the Stevens District in Thetford where I lived and was raised. The rental money we recieved from the summer camps was how we kept the farm going as it paid the bills. We always had from 40 to 60 hordes all the time. Mr Gould was always fair and he treated us kids who helped my mother very well. The second gentleman by the name of Gould is still living in the Town of Thetford and he lives down in the Stevens District, with a now retired American Legin member who was a WW II B-17/B-24 or B-25 Bomber crew member over Nazi Germany, as well as a former Thetford Academy Scienc teacher, now retired and in poor health, by the name of Roberty Bacon ( a distint cousin wh also is of Abenaki ancestry as I am). This fellow named Gould (the 1st name I can not remember) works and he takes care of Mr Bacon also. I do not know if this information will be of help to you, but I feel that if I did not let you know about these two gentlemen by the name of Gould, I would be quite remiss in helping you to locate the lineages that you are looking for when one or, even possibly both were related to those individuals that you are seeking. Unfortunately, this is all the information that I can give to you, but I will pray that in some way it helps you to find the ones that you are seeking. Until later. Be well. stay well and treat yoursef well. Aquini and Adio.
