Hi, I am looking for someone to go to Chicopee City Clerk Office to look up the following. Will pay expenses. 1) Marriage and parents of Joseph Chevalier and Mary Dupre ca 1888. 2) Marriage and parents of Louis Chevalier and Walter Kehr ca 1925. 3)Marriage and parents of Wilfred Duguay and Jeanne Durocher (Desrochers?) ca 1934 Thanks, Bob Wespiser in Naples, Maine
To all:- Sincere apologies for the misuse of a word -- CONFRONT -- whereby I did not mean for anyone to harrass or even say "Why not?" when asking a politician about 1911 census release. The correct word should have been ASK -- and politely, which I did this morning. [I received an unelected YES]. Many thanks for the many who forwarded sites for the new electoral boundaries -- which will only be effective when an election is called. So far, NO call has been made. Members of Parliament and Senators are most likely in their home ridings for the next two weeks, so IF one is interested in census release, why not do the following:- Check constituency office address at http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index6.htm Click on province of choice, then scroll down until you locate YOUR Member of Parliament. By clicking on his/her name at the left, you will locate the message board -- Gordon has posted all known constituency offices. Should there be others or errors, please advise us. Write or type a letter -- YOUR full address and phone number -- your signature must be written -- then put letter in envelope, address to the Member of Parliament. Plan to visit the constituency office for a personal friendly chat and who knows -- the MP may not know YOU desire the 1911 census to be released. Some are not familiar with census release history. If letter is mailed to Ottawa -- NO postage -- send to NAME/House of Commons, Ottawa, ON K1A 0A6 How about Letters to the Editors? I will give a complete list tomorrow evening. There are many people who read newspapers but do not use a computer or typewriter. I also promise a sample letter -- Above all, do not CONFRONT any elected representative, but ASK politely -- the old story of using honey instead of acid. Where are the genealogical societies? South Shore Genealogical Society publishes my personal census page address every month http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~downhome/post1901census.htm [The page started as Lunenburg County's Canadian Census Campaign] There are many sites there -- scoreboards, editorials, borrow phrases!! Above all, let's get crackin' during the next two weeks!! Please copy us in on any letters or replies to update the scoreboards. Muriel M. Davidson muriel_davidson@sympatico.ca Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee Brampton, ON -- formerly Nova Scotia http://globalgenealogy.com/Census en français http://globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index_f.htm
To all -- When chatting with Tony Clement this morning, I learned my electoral district/area will be Brampton West -- HIS area. [He was one of the candidates in recent leadership convention] At the same time, although unelected at present, we have a GOLD tick in favor of census release. I tried searching for updated maps of the ridings for the coming election -- found only the old ones which apply to present ridings, and of course, present Members of Parliament. Would like to see the NEW maps on the screen if possible! There must be a site which shows this -- I seem to have exhausted all. Reason:- Electoral areas will be different with the coming election, some Members of Parliament are not seeking re-election. We need to confront the incoming candidates and question him or her about their decision of census release. If many wish to be elected, and if many constituents are researchers, their answer should REMAIN "YES". I already have the list of new ridings -- Gordon Watts forwarded it to me -- but it can only be sent by attachment at present. Muriel M. I don't have much on this GROSLOT-GROLEAU line (see below) I haven't had too much success researching COURTENAIS/COURTENAY either. I do know that the name FRAPPIER/FRAPIER is associated with it. I have found a few sites that list COURTENAYs but they are in France and England (Normand conquests) and from the 1100 > 1400's. There was a Pierre COURTENAY b ABT 1152 in Constantinople, Turkey d 1219 France m May 1192, Hainaut, France Yolande De HAINAUT And I know that some settlers to Canada that came from Courtenay, Galinois, France used the COURTENAIS/COURTENAY name. A friend of mine has asked if I would try to gather some information about Mary Eugenia Beauvais, who was born in La Prairie, Quebec. She was born on August 10, 1849. Mary Eugenia moved to the State of Michigan and married a man who managed a lighthouse in Port Sherman now Muskegon, Michigan. My friend is trying to find out if Mary Eugenia Beauvais was a member of an Indian nation in Canada. The only other bit of information that was available is that Mary Eugenia's parents were Jean Baptiste Beauvais and Angele Boucher. She was baptized as a Roman Catholic. I am hoping that someone on this list has the Beauvais connection to confirm her Indian nation. Thanks, Jim in Ohio
To all:- I have made several changes to Gordon's message and wish to advise everyone that I received copies of two "automatic delete" emails -- as mentioned before, type or write the letter to your Ottawa representative, and if in the vicinity of the constituency office, drop in for a chat!!! Very often, the personal touch is needed. Muriel M. Davidson muriel_davidson@sympatico.ca Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~downhome/post1901census.htm =========== Greetings All. Just a quick note to advise that the week of April 5th and 12th, Parliament will be in recess. This is an opportunity to meet with your MP in his or her Constituency Office to discuss with them our concerns regarding regaining public access to Historic Census records, 92 years after collection. Addresses for Constituency offices are now on the personal Correspondence Logs of each MP on the Scoreboards of the Post-1901 Census Project website at the URLs below. Access the Scoreboard and click on the MPs name in the left hand column to access the Correspondence Log. While there, check the current position shown for your MP. http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index6.htm To find your Senator, check this site http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Senscore1.htm We seek to regain exactly the same public access -- without conditions or restrictions -- for records of Census after 1906 that we currently have for 240 years of records up to that time. The National Archivist, Ian E. Wilson, has determined that records of Census are a National Treasure and requested care and control of the records in question be returned to him. His request was refused by Chief Statistician Ivan P. Fellegi. On 24 January 2003, the government released and placed online scanned images of the 1906 Census of the Northwestern Provinces. The release was made with no conditions or restrictions to access. In so doing the government has conceded that existing legislation allows them to do so. We expect nothing less for the 1911 National Census -- which should already have been released -- or for the continued release after 92 years of all subsequent Censuses. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. Watts gordon_watts@telus.net Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee Port Coquitlam, BC http://globalgenealogy.com/Census en français http://globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index_f.htm Permission to forward without notice is granted.
You wrote:: [QUEBEC] Quebec Irish Date: 10/10/2003 7:02:43 PM Pacific Standard Time From: redeor@webtv.net (Rene) To: QUEBEC-L@rootsweb.com Hi All, After a long hiatus from the list, I feel I am able to return, but---I'm not at all sure if there's any way to help me. I have found the first trace of my brick wall gggrandfather, Thomas McDivitt ( spelled various ways ) with his marriage registration Nov 1840 , by an Anglican pastor McKnight at Frampton, Beauce Co. (Dorchester ) QC Witnesses were Jane McLaughlan and John Sheedy. Thomas was listed as "bachelor, farmer "By 1851 (census ) he is at Valcartier QC listed as teacher ( I suspect a higher education Anglican boys school given a few tiny clues from family lore) The obit of a son of Thomas states the son " was born on a farm at Valcartier which later became a training base for Canadian soldiers during the late war ( WW ! ) I have exhausted every research possibility in trying to ascertain where in Ireland Thomas was born--his siblings--parents etc and now must try going back to the beginning in Quebec and see if any one has some advice--direction as to if there may be any possibility of any kind of records of him prior to his marriage at Frampton. and if there might be a clue somewhere in QC land records and how to locate them for those years, also if any one knows of the type of school mentioned around Valcartier 1851-61. +++++++++++++++++++++++ Hullo, Maureen. Two thoughts -(1) lots of Irish were Church of England (Anglican) in those days and still are. Not everyone knows that. Try the C of E church records - the web page for the Canadian Anglican Church will tell you how to access them - not sure how it is addressed. (2) I finally found a reference to the county in Ireland where my immigrant ancestor had been born ON HIS HEADSTONE. There it was: "Patrick Egan, a native of County Lietrim, Ireland, . . . " and so on. I had just about killed myself looking in records, with no result at all prior to that. The irony of it was that I had the death date and the cemetery location all the time - just had never physically looked at the stone. Later I found that it was the (Irish?) style of the time to include the land of one's birth in the engraved information on headstones. Even in deepest Illinois in a little French community I was researching for another line, I saw stones with Irish surnames AND the birth-counties given. Sooooooooo - if you can find the burial site and the marker, you may be closer to Thomas's county of origin. THEN you can contact the Irish Heritage Office in that county with the info you have, and see what they can tell you. Best of luck, Ginny Crawford
