    1. Death 1872
    2. Janet WHITE
    3. I am new to the list and have had great trouble trying to find the answer to a question. I hope you can help. My great great grandfather, Reverend Edward WHITE contracted smallpox on a return voyage from Britain to New York and was taken ill, and hospitalized, 07 June 1872, in your Montreal General where he died 16 June 1872 "in hospital, at two o'clock in the morning", just short of his 50th birthday. His family was living in Hamilton, ON and he was supposed to be attending a Conference of the Methodist Church, which was being held in Montreal, at that time. Two questions: 1) Would his body have been disposed of onsite (as it was diseased)? Cremated? Buried? Where? What was Hospital policy at that time? What parish is the hospital in? 2) Would his wife, (Sarah) Jane 'WHITE have been allowed to come from Ontario to pick his body up for taking back to Ontario? I would greatly appreciate any information you could shed on his probable whereabouts. He was a pioneer Methodist missionary, the first to arrive in BC, in 1859, and I am trying to write his history. I am filling out a request for his provincial death certificate. It seems to have two (or three?) columns...one, under DEATH for "Full-sized certificate $15, and another for "Copy of Act" $20 and a third box at the end for "CIVIL STATUS: Full sized certificate" $25. Which ones must I purchase? Janet WHITE Burnaby, BC --------------------------------------------------------------------- "Are you still wasting your time with spam?... There is a solution!" 3. I'm answering on the list, because I'm sure you aren't the only one with this question. The most reliable data for this period is coming from the PRDH The site in english is here http://www.genealogie.umontreal.ca/en/main.htm You should read through all the sections there to get an understanding of what is included, and how it is presented. You can conduct a search to see if your ancestors are included there, but in order to see the actual document you must subscribe. However, the fee is very reasonable. You can also download the Tanguay books at this site, but as you probably know, there are quite a few errors known to be in this book. Still, it is a place to start. http://www.bnquebec.ca/numtxt/tanguay.htm Not in English, but each section is labelled as contenu de tome 1 etc this lists the contents of each section for each volume. if you click on the section you want, it will download in pdf format You must eventually obtain the actual documents to see for yourself what is stated there, because all of these sources, no matter how reliable, are still secondary. 3. I'm replying to the List for the same reason as Lisa... Depending on where in Quebec, the Ontario Genealogical Society runs a site called Provincial Index that they are continually updating. They have a lot of Quebec material because many Quebecois moved to Ontario. The site can be found at http://www.ogs.on.ca/ogspi/welcome.htm Let us know the lines you are researching. This list has about 650 users, many of whom have completed their research and are sitting in the sidelines waiting to help others with theirs. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom Jack" <tomjack@telus.net> To: <QUEBEC-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 11, 2004 9:42 AM Subject: [QUEBEC] Is there any Place on the webb for lookups?? > Hello out there! > Pray tell me if there is any place on the webb, that a person can go to look up Accurate information.
