To all:- Possibly I should explain the "Canadian Reflections" story in the Legion magazine concerns the Empress of Ireland -- and that the liner made voyages from Quebec to Liverpool, England. It is estimated 1,000 passengers and crew were lost -- the ship is somewhere -- sunk to the bottom of the St. Lawrence River, and very possibly local people know the location. Muriel M. Davidson muriel_davidson@sympatico.ca ===== I have given only the main website address for the The Legion Magazine, but there are many useful sites, including LAST POST if searching for a former serviceman whose name might be listed. http://www.legionmagazine.com/ D-Day will be celebrated in memory by many on June 6 -- we think back to 1944, and this is the Canadian story. Janot is a nom dit for Lachapelle and vice versa. So it is the same personn. The actual Notre Dame, Montreal Parish Registers, not repertoires, show the following marriages: 25 September 1815, Jacques BICK(BEIQUE) dit LAFLEUR, son of deceased Jacques BICK (BEIQUE) dit LAFLEUR and deceased Marie Ann JANOT, to Catherine CHARTIER, daughter of Raphael CHARTIER and Monique LAHAISE. 27 January 1817, Jacques BICK (BEIQUE) dit LAFLEUR, son of deceased Jacques BICK (BEIQUE) dit LAFLEUR and the deceased Marie Ann LACHAPELLE, to Marie Catherine PAQUET dit LAVALLEE, daughter of Andre PAQUET dit LAVALLE and Marie Louise PESANT. Is the listed mother(Marie Anne JANOT and Marie Anne LACHAPELLE) of Jacques BICK dit LAFLEUR the same women? Are these two listed marriages of Jacques BICK (BEIQUE) dit LAFLEUR for the same person? I can find no information on the death of Catherine CHARTIER of the first marriage. The second listed marriage has no information indicating Jacques BICK (BEIQUE) dit LAFLEUR was a widower when he married Marie Catherine PAQUET dite LAVALLEE. This omission would appear to be highly unusual. Any information and recommendations will be most appreciated. Larry La Flair

Lachapelle is a dit name of Janot, so the mothers are almost certainly the same person. I wouls suspect that the Jacqueses listed are the same as well. Perhaps Catherine died in another parish. Perhaps an annulment? (This would be very unusual.) Perhaps another sibling Jacques distinguished among the family by a second name? (E.g. Jacques-Jean and Jacques-Simon.) A little unusual, but possible. This latter hypothesis can be checked with PDRH as the birth dates will predate 1800. > -----Original Message----- > From: Larry La Flair [mailto:llaflair@earthlink.net] > Sent: Tue 4 May 2004 5:23 PM > To: QUEBEC-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [QUEBEC] Jacques BEIQUE dit LAFLEUR Marriages > > > > > > The actual Notre Dame, Montreal Parish Registers, not > repertoires, show the > following marriages: > > 25 September 1815, Jacques BICK(BEIQUE) dit LAFLEUR, son of > deceased Jacques > BICK (BEIQUE) dit LAFLEUR and deceased Marie Ann JANOT, to Catherine > CHARTIER, daughter of Raphael CHARTIER and Monique LAHAISE. > > 27 January 1817, Jacques BICK (BEIQUE) dit LAFLEUR, son of > deceased Jacques > BICK (BEIQUE) dit LAFLEUR and the deceased Marie Ann LACHAPELLE, to Marie > Catherine PAQUET dit LAVALLEE, daughter of Andre PAQUET dit LAVALLE and > Marie Louise PESANT. > > Is the listed mother(Marie Anne JANOT and Marie Anne LACHAPELLE) > of Jacques > BICK dit LAFLEUR the same women? > > Are these two listed marriages of Jacques BICK (BEIQUE) dit > LAFLEUR for the > same > person? > > I can find no information on the death of Catherine CHARTIER of the first > marriage. > > The second listed marriage has no information indicating Jacques BICK > (BEIQUE) dit LAFLEUR was a widower when he married Marie Catherine PAQUET > dite LAVALLEE. To all:- With the new census petitions for release of the 1911 census records, desired by many, some may have queries about the Privacy Act. The following speech has been forwarded by Jeff Paul, policy advisor in Senator Lorna Milne's office. It is printable and only three pages. For new petitons to download, go to http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/ Petitions may be double-sided and we would appreciate a note from the person or group sending same. At present there is not any census bill -- but we are getting prepared -- just in case. ========== This is a must read for all who are interested in the release of historic census records. It is one of the first speeches made by the Privacy Commissioner since her appointment at the beginning of the year. http://www.privcom.gc.ca/speech/2004/sp-d_040401_e.asp Jeff Paul Policy Advisor Office of the Hon.
