Hi Debbie, I am new to the list. Just did a search and found the following information: http://www.rootsweb.com/~bwo/can_q.html Lotbiniere County "Marriages de St-Sylvestre, St-Gilles, St-Agathe, St-Patrice, St-Narcisse." Comté de Lotbiniére B Pontbriand, 2390, rue Marie Victorin, Québec 6 Canada 1972. Roman Catholic marriage records from the following parishes: St-Sylvestre (1829 - 1971), St-Gilles (1829 - 1971), St-Agathe (1858-1971), St-Patrice (1860-1971) and St-Narcisse (1873-1971). From what I understand, it is both a placename as well as parish district. Hope this helps, -Jane > Hi, > > Getting back into my French Canadian roots for an upcoming family > reunion. Hi, Getting back into my French Canadian roots for an upcoming family reunion. Is there a St. Sylvester in Quebec? Is it a church? Is it a town? I have had no luck finding it so far, but I figure it must be a church or a town. Debbie

Hi All, The Civil Service List of Quebec 1853 and Canada 1872 & 1894 These are dis-bound sections of an annual set of session papers which record the staff of the Canadian (only for Quebec in the 1853 report) Civil Service during that year. The listing of the Civil Service staff varies in format from report to report. All of them give the officer's name, rank, department, salary and the date of their appointment. The 1872 report also include their "origin" and creed while the 1852 Quebec report also includes notes about the department and some of the employees. If an ancestor was working for the government in this period they are going to be listed here. Use the link below. Laporte is a dit name for Sorel; hence, from the PRDH, Francois Provost and Madeleine Sorelle, 1782-11-24, Boucherville. Bertrand Desjardins PRDH

Greetings All. The latest of my Census columns is now online and may be viewed at http://globalgenealogy.com/globalgazette/gazce/gazce104.htm Due to an unavoidable delay in having it posted a couple of things are slightly out of date. My next column is in the works now and will be posted shortly. Happy Hunting Gordon A. The Lockheed-Martin census printing had been resolved before the column was posted. Also note the new location of Global Genealogy store -- the one at Milton was so crammed it was interesting!! Helping a friend who has taken an interest in her Moisan (Moisen) ancestry. All she knows at present is that her parents and grandparents lived in Manchester, NH and that an earlier family member came to Manchester from Quebec. Is there anyone out there researching the Moisan family name - perhaps their family history would provide a point of beginning for her research. Thanks, Frank
