    3. I have 32 Casimir's with French last names in my database and doing a quick search of the Best Bill postings that I haven't deleted in my database yet I find another 18. So it wasn't only a Polish name. BONNETs became LAROCHE. Genevieve is probably Ste-Genevieve I have a few... Ste-Genevieve-de-Pierrefond, Ile-de-Montreal, Quebec Ste-Genevieve Parish, Berthierville, Quebec Ste-Genevieve, Batiscan, Champlain Co., Quebec BANCHA was probably corrupted from BACHAND I have seen the name FANIOU / FANYOU but it was associated with the name FANEUF or PHANEUF (both same name just different spelling) BTW.. I know some will argue this but it is a misconception... There's no such a thing as a Huguenot name because all people in France with that family name did not become Protestants... Only a few. Hope this helps a bit... ----- Original Message ----- From: <hagerdonngenealogy@earthlink.net> > My situation is that my French Grt-grt-grandfather's name was Casimir > Rochelle or La Rochelle. 1. KERR, HENDERSON, Huntingdon County, 1820's
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, Last week I was reminded of a page from Eileen's web site on the "former Township of Gore" which describes the petition of settlers in the 1820's, upon their arriving in Canada. This petition says that they were supposed to get land in Huntingdon County and settle there, but it was all "lotted out." "To His Excellency George Earl of Dalhousie, K.G.C., captain General and Governor in chief of the provinces of Lower Canada, Upper Canada, &c, &c The petition of the undersigned citizens of Ireland Most humbly sheweth That your Excellency's petitioners emigrated from Ireland, for the purpose of settling themselves and families, in some part of His Majesty's American colonies, and on their landing at Quebec and making the requisite enquiries, were decided to proceed to the Township of Godmanchester, Hinchinbrooke or Hemingsford. On their making application to the agent for these townships, they were informed the land was all allotted. Petetioners then proceeded to the Township of Wentworth, which they were informed was then lotting out; but there they were again disappointed, in consequence of the land not being surveyed. Thus, my lord, having wandered about until their resources were exhausted, and their families overtaken by the winter, they had no prospect remaining, but that of immediately erecting shanties to protect them from the inclemency of the weather, and perishing, which they did on a gore of Government land, east of the township of Wentworth, and in the rear of the Seigneury of Argenteuil. Your Excellency's petitioners, can each produce unexceptionable testimonies of loyalty and good character, from clergymen of the church of England, and captains of yeomanry under whom they served. They therefore most humbly implore that your Excellency will be graciously pleased to suffer them to remain unmolested on the said land, till at some future period, it may be surveyed and lotted out." http://www3.telus.net/public/mcelroye/webpages/gore.html/intro.html ..It took me a few minutes, but I finally found web sites which discussed the counties in Quebec Province, and saw that Huntingdon County is down in the southwestern corner, on the NY border, and having Ontario Province across the river. While searching, I also found a web site offering the 1842 Census for Huntingdon County, and found several HENDERSON families mentioned. One of them was a Samuel HENDERSON, and I'm curious whether that is where Samuel HENDERSON from Argentueil County in the 1830's .. moved to. (Did not see any KERR's mentioned.) www.rootsweb.com/~qchuntin/hin42.htm .. I'm also curious whether any of the relatives of the families who settled got Land Grants in Argenteuil County in the 1820's .. were lucky enough to get the Land in Huntington County. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) P.S. When I did a search for "Hitchinbrook, Quebec," 98% of the web sites I found were about .. Hitchinbrook / Hinchinbrook Island in Australia ! P.S.2 I will be moving to a new home next week and am in the packing process. So, I might not have time to respond to e-mails until December.

    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. URGENT S-18 UPDATEGreetings All. FYI Gordon ----- Original Message ----- From: Paul, Jeff: SEN To: CANADA-CENSUS-CAMPAIGN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: URGENT S-18 UPDATE Hi there everyone There have been some important develoments in S-18 and Senator Milne needs your help. As many of you may know, Conservative Senator Lynch-Staunton took the adjournment of the debate of the bill yesterday. This means that no progress can be made on the bill until he speaks. We have found out that he will not be in the Senate next week and that he does not intend to speak on the bill until the government promises to hold hearings on a private Senator's bill that Senator Stratton still hasn't even introduced. This development has the potential to delay progress on the bill by several weeks. Senator Milne needs your help to put pressure on the Conservatives to move ahead with S-18. We need people to write to: Senator John Lynch-Staunton: lynchj@sen.parl.gc.ca Senator Terrence Stratton: stratt@sen.parl.gc.ca Deputy Leader of the Conservative Party in the Senate You can also call the Senate at 1-800-267-7362 and ask for Sen. Stratton's office or Sen. Lynch-Staunton's office and explain to their staff that you want to see action on this bill. Senator Stratton is from Manitoba and Sen. Lynch-Staunton is from Quebec. If you are from those provinces a call may be especially helpful. You should urge both of these Senators to allow S-18 to move forward, and encourage Sen. Lynch-Staunton to speak on the bill as soon as possible. We also need to lean on Stephen Harper to get him to realize that his Senate Caucus is holding up a bill that is supported by the Conservative Party. If your MP is Conservative, I strongly encourage you to write to him or her and ask them to put pressure on the Conservative Senators who are holding up the bill. We can't do much from our end because Conservatives can tell us to go to hell without there being any consequences. They can't do the same thing to the general pubilc. Good luck you guys. I hope that once again we can have your support. Jeff Paul Policy Advisor Office of the Hon. Lorna Milne Ph: (613) 947-9744 Cell: (613) 715-2965

Again I would have to say no. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Reg Volk" <regvolk@silk.net> To: <QUEBEC-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, November 15, 2004 9:08 PM Subject: {not a subscriber} Quebec Irish > Are there any definitive lists for the Irish in Quebec City 1863-1880? > > Reg Volk > >

    3. Suggestion: PRINT the Scoreboard of the Senators - Muriel ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gordon A. Watts" <gordon_watts@telus.net> To: "Canada Census Campaign" <CANADA-CENSUS-CAMPAIGN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, November 15, 2004 8:04 PM Subject: Post 1901Census - Senator Scoreboard revised Greetings All. In a review of the current list of Senators I found that a number have retired in the past six months, or are about to retire this month, and one has resigned. Those Senators that have retired or resigned are Senators Ed Lawson (BC), D. Roche (AB), R. Kroft (MB), J-R Gauthier (ON), G. Beaudoin (QC), B. Robertson (NB), and E. Rossiter (PEI). Retiring this month are Laurier LaPierre (ON) and Yves Morin. There are currently 13 vacancies for Senators. I have updated the Senator's Scoreboard to reflect these changes. The Scoreboard Totals have been brought up-to-date as well. A reminder that we are seeking your thoughts about Bill S-18. Full details about this new Census Bill are available at the Post 1901 Census Project website at www.globalgenealogy.com/Census . Briefly, this Bill would provide full, unrestricted public access after 92 years, with no added conditions or restrictions, for Censuses from 1911 to 2001. For Censuses from 2006 and later it would impose an 'informed consent' clause that would require each respondent to the Census to give permission for their information to be released 92 years later. There is a provision that would require a review of the effect of the 'informed consent' clause after two Censuses had been conducted. When sending us your opinions please copy in Senator Milne at paulj@sen.parl.gc.ca Happy Hunting. Gordon A.
