    1. Renfrew County - New Cemetery Photos are Online
    2. Murray Pletsch
    3. Dear Fellow Researchers: The following photographed cemeteries in Renfrew County have been added to the Northeastern Ontario Gravemarker Gallery Web Site. The web site link is below my signature: 1. *Ross Township Cemeteries.* All cemeteries in Ross Twp are now online with today's addition of the Foresters Falls - Howard Cemetery. This Township includes towns such as Cobden, Haley Station, Foresters Falls and McLaren's Settlement. 2. *Westmeath Township Cemeteries.* Thanks to the tireless and much appreciated computer-help of Karen (Bentley) Lawrence - all the cemeteries in Westmeath Township are now posted. This township includes towns such as LaPasse, Beachburg, Perretton and Westmeath. Some fellow researchers have asked how I can afford to visit these cemeteries with my camera at such a great distance from my home. I achieve this through budget magic through the winter months when I am grounded; and with the help of a few generous folks who have contributed to my "cemetery gas-account". Their help with this project is genuinely appreciated and full credit for their kindness will be posted on the site. Good luck........*M u r r a y P l e t s c h* Alt Email: gravemarkers@hotmail.com *N E O n t a r i o G r a v e m a r k e r G a l l e r y* http://nocgg.maddoc.net

    3. Parish Records for Sainte-Marie of Beaverville, IL (1859-1920) and Sainte Joseph of Papineau, IL (1899-1933)' that was transcribed by Les Arseneau from the French. This CD also contains the images of the original documents. The CD is 50 dollars. You may purchase a copy from Les Arseneau. He can be reached at Les Arseneau [larseneau@worldnet.att.net] or Les Arseneau 16637 Mt. Michaelis Circle Fountain Valley, CA 92708 While this is not a Quebec source, it is a good source for the community of French Canadians in Iroquois county in Illinois. There are some mentions about those in Kankakee county, Illinois and Benton county, Indiana. The priests used the maiden names for married women. Sometimes the French or previous spelling of a surname is used. Rarely, a reference is made to the town of origin in Canada. I will do short lookups.

    3. Harriet - Here's what made me think you have the wrong guy - In these 2 directories, Joseph is living at St. Albans, an engineer for the railroad. In the 1880 census, the Joseph living in St Albans has a wife Harriet, and children George, Charles & looks like Hattie. Joseph is 39 and born in NY. He is a railroad engineer, and George works in the RR office. Because the wife listed here is different, and the birth location is NY, I was thinking it wasn't the same Joseph. But, if the children are correct, then maybe the census taker goofed. If this is the same Joseph, then maybe you should look in NY for his birth record. It's possible he didn't fill out that marriage cert. himself. Maybe the priest did it, and wrote down Canada in error? I'll send you this sheet also. 3. I own a copy of the CD of 'Parish Records for Sainte-Marie of Beaverville, IL (1859-1920) and Sainte Joseph of Papineau, IL (1899-1933)' that was transcribed by Les Arseneau from the French. This CD also contains the images of the original documents. Les Arseneau did a very good job, but it is always suggested to look at the original documents if you can. I found some notes that were written upside down in the back of that book for 1875. Mostly bookkeeping records, but a few of those pages included a parish census for 1875. I emailed Les Arseneau about them and he did not remember why he did not transcribe those pages. -Cyndi Sweet

    3. Harriet - I will send the census sheet to your address. This is the index information - CADY, JOSEPH (1920 U.S. Census) VERMONT , WASHINGTON, MIDDLESEX Age: 74, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: CANA Series: T625 Roll: 1875 Page: 218 In 1920, the Joseph who was 74 was living with his wife. Now that I look more carefully, she looks like Elmira. Joseph is listed as b. Canada, and employed as a farm laborer. There is no street address given - they all seem to be farms. On the previous page, the farm owner looks like David Hall, but there is no guarantee that Joseph lived on his farm. Do you know any of the children's names? 1. Re: [QUEBEC] Fw: family research
    2. Since you think that he came to the US by way of Canada, and you were hoping to find him in NYC, he probably came to that place by way of Castle Gardens, ( or Castle Clinton as some called it) in Manhattan. There are no records for immigrants entering the US throught this port, but since you know the year, you might have some luck with a ships list, such as Cyndi's lists etc. There is also the possiblilty that he came through Philadelphia or Baltimore. If he did come by way of Canada, it is likely that he came by water down the St Lawrence to the Lake Champlain and to towns like Plattsburg NY or Burlington VT. The over land route would have taken him to places like New Port VT , or Colchester NH or even down the Old Canada Road to Maine. This time was just on the cusp of the Railroad era, but I don't think there was much rail activity before th 1850's. Fran Wilcox

    3. I wonder if all could advice me about something I have been pondering. My husbands grandfather, Joseph Cady had a pocket watch listed as part of the estate at Washinton Probate Court. I have thought about it and believe it might have been the watch he got when he retired from the railroad. My question is where would you find a record if he received a watch when he retired, in Middlesex, VT before 1920. Also is there a place where they might tell if it was engraved with his name? Just wondering if I should start a treasure hunt. Harriet
