Hoping someone can help me locate the marriage of John Doyle and Mary Deir. Family history has it that they eloped to Montreal. All attempts to find this marriage in Eastern Ontario have been fruitless. Their first four children were baptized at the Catholic church in Gananoque, Ontario, and the entries state " of the lawful marriage of..". The first child baptized was on March 2, 1865, being born 19 Feb., 1865. So the marriage timing would appear to fall into the range of the Fall of 1863 or the winter of 1863/64. Are there microfilms for churches of that time available, say, at LDS? Being Irish they would probably gone to a church that ministered to the Irish population. John's parents were Thomas Doyle and Anne Fortune. Mary's were John Deir and Catherine Lloyd. Any assistance would be much appreciated. Paul Cote

----- Original Message ----- From: "Gilbert Provost" <gprovost@reach.net> To: <CANADA-CENSUS-CAMPAIGN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, December 11, 2004 1:21 PM Subject: [CCC] Fwd: Post 1901 Census "Salutations à tous. Bonne chasse." Gordon A. Yes, for a small fee Mount Royal cemetery will do a search of their records & tell you what they find. On their website - click on "genealogy" for more details. If you click on "Products" - you can type in the name you seek & it will tell you if the name appears in either Mount Royal or Hawthorndale cems. (the website doesn't say which - though) Mt Royal is a large cemetery - & if you find your family member is buried in G section or A section or whatever -- ask them WHICH G or A section. G1- G2 G3 etc.. as that will narrow the search (should you ever visit) to a couple hours or so. Unlike the Notre Dame des Neiges cem-- Mt Royal lists women under their married name .. so if you are looking for Jean Brown who married John Jones -- they will list her under Jean Jones. Dear Sir:- I know about this same-sex problem personally and feel the word "marriage" should be eliminated. A nephew told me they want a legal commitment so both could have medical benefits and other items known to "man-and-woman" marriages -- basically, the right to care for the other financially through his/her place of work. Can you imagine the ?fun? of doing family research in years to come, but as the number of years is 92, we will not be around to encounter this problem. Census records will very definitely be changed -- one partner will have to be listed as the HEAD of the household. This is one bit of governmental mismanagement I sincerely hope "goes down the drain" -- and get on with more pressing and needed matters. Muriel M. Davidson Brampton, ON
Remember, as you read the following -- Bill S-18 is a government bill -- Muriel ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gordon A. Watts" <gordon_watts@telus.net> To: "Canada Census Campaign" <CANADA-CENSUS-CAMPAIGN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, December 10, 2004 1:52 PM Subject: Post 1901 Census Greetings All. Second Reading debate in the Senate on Bill S-18 was adjourned 2 December in the name of Senator Noél Kinsella. At the beginning of this week there were some indications that Second Reading might be finished and S-18 referred to Committee, with the Committee of Social Affairs, Science and Technology possibly meeting on it as early as Wednesday. This even though the Committee website shows that there are currently no Committee meetings scheduled. Obviously this has not happened. The Senate sat on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week and has now been adjourned until Monday, 13 December. While Senator Kinsella was shown in attendence for each sitting day this week, and he did speak on other things, no further debate took place this week on Bill S-18. On the Senate Order Paper Bill S-18 has daily been shown high up in the order of items listed, however it would appear that this order has little meaning as many other items, lower in the list, seem to have taken precedence over S-18. I expect that the last sitting day of the Senate before adjournment for Christmas will be Thursday 16 December. This gives at most four sitting days for Bill S-18 to complete Second Reading debate and to be referred to Committee if this is to be accomplished in a timely manner (i.e. this year). According to the Parliamentary Calendar, Parliament will not resume sitting again until Monday, 31 January. From the time Parliament resumes sitting in January until it adjourns for the summer recess there will be 68 sitting days, possibly 78 days if an extension of sitting days is invoked. Not a lot of time for Bill S-18 to finish being processed in the Senate and then to go through the hoops once again in the House of Commons. If we have any hope at all, before Parliament recesses for the summer, of regaining the public access to Historic Census records we seek, we must continue to inform our parliamentarians how important this issue is to us. Government has been known to rush something through Parliament that is of importance to them. We must make this an issue that is important to them so that they will take steps to expedite passage of Bill S-18. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. In a message dated 12/9/2004 11:56:31 AM Eastern Standard Time, gboivin@telusplanet.net writes: In genealogy the use of ABT (about) BEF (before) AFT (after) or c (circa) are always assumed dates... No accuracy intended... Just to place the individual within a timeline. EST (estimated) is when mathematics has been used to calculate a day such as from a tombstone ( 72 years 8 months 31 days). The "d. AFT Jul 25 1635" comes from the fact that she wasn't listed as dead when Noel got married on m. Jul 25 1634/35 while the marriage registry states that the father was dead. The reason for Guillaume's death date being "BEF May 1634" is because he was listed as being dead "3 mois passés" (3 months ago) when Noel married. So July > June > May > April = 3 months. So if he died in April it was BEF May. ____________________________________ The data about dates, especially the use of ABT, BEF, AFT and C is most valuable. In 17th century Québec, the official record of births, marriages and deaths was the parish register. It is not uncommon to find the date of baptism noted, but not the date of birth. Similarly, the date of burial, but not the date of death. Or, the notation will include an expression such as "hier", "avant hier" (yesterday, or the day before yesterday). Please be careful not to confuse the dates. It is the birth that takes place a day or two before the baptism, and the death a day or two before the burial, not the other way round! Also, please take note that the Old Style - New Style dating system for the first three months of the calendar year was never used in French Canada, either in Québec or in Acadie. France adopted the Gregorian calendar immediately upon its proclamation in October 1582, and all years from 1583 forward begin on January 1, not on April 1. But Great Britain and its colonies did not adopt the Gregorian calendar until 1752, so dates between January 1 and March 31 are notated thus: Feb 27 1697/98. [BTW, there would be no Jul 25 1634/35 on any calendar.] Fr Owen Taggart

As for... > Some records have Jeanne's death as 1607. ???? This may be but they are not sources.no proof exists. I never said that proof existed. I am stating a fact. That some records DO indicate that she died in 1607 but I have her listed as being alive when Noel got married. She may have died in 1607 and the Priest simply didn't mark her down as dead when Noel got married. I don't know. So both info's are listed in my database until I can get a time machine and be there at her deathbed. As for... > [d/o Jacques MILLET and Jeanne VINCENT] ??????? parents inconnu You are right. My original research indicated that Jacques was possibly her brother and not her father. I made a mistake typing that in my database. Thanks for noticing that. I've disconnected them now. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jack" <j12l@charter.net> To: <QUEBEC-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 08, 2004 9:37 AM Subject: Re: [QUEBEC] LANGLOIS - LAFAILLE and TREMBLAY - POUTRE > Bonjour > Please review the following information for its validity. It appears that > quesses were used. Thanks to "Best Bill", I now have the parish - Saint Philippe de Chateauguay - where my great grandparents were married on 17 Sept. 1885. They were Benjamin Boudrias and Nathalie Boudrias. My grandmother was born about 1890, her name was Cedia Nathalie Boudrias. Would anyone have the records for this parish? I would love to verify her birth and also if possible, what happened to her sisters Marie-Anne, Anne-Marie-Zephirine, and Praxilde-Eudoxie. I have no further information on the sisters except for their names. My grandmother was the last child born in Canada, the family came to Fall River, Mass. about 1893. Thanks so much for any help with my "Mémère"! Paula
