Hello: I am doing research on my great-great grandfather, MOSES H. BENNET/BENNETT. He was born in Quebec (French), Canada according to several documents obtained in the USA. I have him born either 1 June 1820 or 15 June 1821. At this time, his parents are not known but it is stated they were from France. On our 1910 Census, he states he emmigrated in 1830 to, I believe, New York, USA. I definitely need some help on this one, since I am going into a different country. I am not sure how to approach this or what is available to me. Thank you in advance for your time and energy. It is greatly appreciated. Hi; If you want to find the birth date for a person born in the Province of Quebec, Canada, as opposed to the Waterloo in the Province of Ontario, Canada, in 1916, the only likely place you'll find that is in the church records. The Province of Quebec did not have a provincial centralized birth recording system until several years later. But if your birth date is correct. you might be able to get a copy of the church baptismal record by writing to one of the Province of Quebec Archives offices. I think they can read English, although all their messages at their web site at the Archives Nationales du Québec are only in French. Their URL is http://www.anq.gouv.qc.ca/index.htm I believe you can get a copy of that baptismal record for a nominal fee. The Waterloo, Que. info should be in the Provincial Archives Eastern Townships office in Sherbrooke at: anq.sherbrooke@mcc.gouv.qc.ca Their tel. no. is: (819) 820-3010 However, if a kind lister, living in Quebec, has access to the LDS microfilm of the Waterloo Catholic church, he/she might be able to give you the info. after the New Year's, since all Archives offices, and municipal libraries are closed until next Wednesday in the Province. Fran, Thank you for the suggestions. I'm actually looking for the specific address for the Waterloo, Quebec town clerk or whomever would have the birth record. This is a somewhat convoluted story( no surprise there !). Henri William Boire was born on April 16, 1916. He had an older sister, Margaret who was born on October 23, 1914 presumably in Waterloo, Quebec. Margaret retained the surname of King( Roy, Le Roi) at least as an adult. I don't know how her name would appear on a birth certificate. For some reason, both children were raised by family members other than their parents. When Henri was three months old, he was taken to the United States by an aunt( Anna Girard Kooken) of Ernestine Boire. Anna whose maiden name was Girard and whose parents were Francis X Girard and Rosalie Tanguay was born in Canada on September 15, 1881. She immigrated to the US and subsequently married Joseph Kooken. In June of 1916, she returned to Canada and brought back Henri William Boire. Henri William Boire was baptized in Boston in June 1916. He was subsequently adopted by Anna and her husband. If I have my facts straight, Anna was Henri's grandaunt so there is some connection between the Girard family and the Boire family in Canada. Margaret who went by the surname King was raised by Leona Boire, her mother's sister. I don't know if Margaret grew up in Canada or not but she subsequently moved to the US and she lived in Bangor, ME. Ed , when you go looking for Henri William King, remember that the last name King is probably an anglicization of the French name Roy. Have you gone to the town clerk for Waterloo? Is this Waterloo in Quebec province or in Canada. The parish registers for the town where he was born? Do you know where the Mother was from? Are there any other older family members that might have more information? Since 1916 was during the heart of the First World War, have you looked for information on King in the American enlistment records , or the Canadian records? Many Frenchmen came south from Canada to work on the farms and the mills in Ma during this time. Do you have access to a French canadian Genealogical library? They might have more research material for the French in Ma. Fran wilcox
I'm trying to assist my wife's cousin as he tries to learn about his family. According to baptismal records in Boston,MA, this cousin's father was Henri Boire. Henri was supposedly the son of Henri William King and Ernestine Boire and purportedly was born on April 16, 1916 in Waterloo. I do not know why Henri's surname is Boire rather than King but I could make a guess if I had to. How would my cousin go about obtaining a copy of his father Henri Boire's birth record ? Henri has since passed away in Holyoke, Massachusetts and my cousin would like to have his father's birth record. Any advice would be appreciated. Ed O'Connor Hudson,MA
To all: The subject line seems very long -- but can be very concise. As I will be away over the New Year's weekend, I extend sincere New Year's 2005 greetings at this time. It is a time of looking back, but we must also look forward as I do, to passage of Bill S-18. We have worked hard -- but there seems to be more to do before we gain access to our Canadian 1911 census records. Census petitions keep arriving -- I received one the other day and was surprised I knew every person who had signed it -- from Liverpool, Nova Scotia. LDS Family Centres and Genealogy Societies keep adding to the flow -- which I will be tabulating about January 15 or later, as the Senate of Canada resumes February 1, 2005. How about tying a string on your finger and make PETITIONS part of your New Year's weekend -- parties and family gatherings are great places to gather signatures -- remember, street addresses are not needed -- only Name, City, Country, Postal/Zip Code. http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/index.htm Addresses are posted where to send the completed petitions. Believe me, this is our ONLY way WE are able to speak in Ottawa. How about scanning the following sites and see if any need LETTERS House of Commons: [Postage is FREE in Canada] http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index6.htm Address:- Name/House of Commons/Ottawa, ON K1A 0A6 Senate of Canada: [Postage is FREE in Canada] http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Senscore1.htm Address:- NAME, Senate of Canada, Ottawa, ON K1A 0A6 Do not waste your letter-writing time for those who have gained GOLD coloured symbols -- I feel they are committed. Also there may be a French translation of this memo for some areas. Above all, make contact with certain MPs and Senators and hope for answers. [I would prefer a copy of your letter and any answer - Gordon does the posting of symbols].
