Hello, I am searching for the marriage details and the parents of Joseph Albert ETHIER and Marcelline (called Marcella) BERNIER or BERNARD. The marriage might have occurred between 1845 and 1855. I have three proven daughters for this couple: Marthe b about 1853 Cobourg, ont Auralie P. b 1857 Cobourg, ont Sophie E. b 1859 Cobourg, Ont The children were orphaned in 1865. There are also family rumours of an older brother called Joseph. Marthe's death in 1875 was reported by a Joseph, but beyond that I have found no proof of this connection. Sophie and Auralie, in different documents, stated that their parents were born in Quebec, but I have no idea where in Quebec I should begin looking. I would welcome any suggestions as to where I should probably begin. I do know that some of Marcelline BERNIER's relatives went to Vermont and some of Joseph ETHIER's relatives went to northern New York state, in the mid 1800's. I have access to a FHC about an hours drive away. Any suggestions of where I might begin are appreciated. Thank you for reading. Hi Linda:- To date, we have yet to receive a petition for release of the 1911 census records. These are very important to many as the 1911 one is the last one prior to World War One -- many did not return. Petitions may be downloaded from -- The Senate one, mainly as Bill S-18 is still stuck in the Senate of Canada http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/index.htm Street addresses are not needed (our privacy) -- but we need NAME, CITY, PROVINCE, POSTAL CODE Sincerely hope you will gather some signatures for us -- in some genealogy groups, members are given Page 2, they take it home and bring it back next meeting. YOU would make one copy of Page 1 -- and high school students are able to sign -- also this makes a good topic for a school discussion. Muriel M. I am researching my grandfathers ancestral line, surname Cote. The records I have show that my grandfathers great grandfather Magloire Cote married Anastasie Huot at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Minneapolis, Minnesota on November 9, 1857 by Father Fayolle*. Can someone clue me to why people moved from Quebec at that time to Minnesota. The huot's moved from St. Antoine sur Richelieu, Quebec.** I am interested in the travel routes that immigrants might have taken at that time, did they go via ship or in groups? The family book shows that Magloire was born 1841 in Edmundston, Rivera Vert, St. Basille, Quebec. I had no luck finding him in the canadian census. Was Malgoire a name like Michael or Michel? What might be some resources in the Edmunston area or any other relatives. Magloire and Anastasie lived in Quebec prior to 1857, than married in Minnesota in 1857, than I find him in Northern Maine [Connor "K" Plantation/Caribou]. His children Joseph J [DEC 10 1857 born in Old Town, ME], Levi Cote and Sabrina Cote. I have the descendants for Joseph J Cote, my great great granfather. But would like to get more information. Joseph J. married Emma Bergeron D'Amboise and had 8 children, including son Emmanuel Cote [born in Connor/Caribou MAR 18, 1902] marrying Malvina Lizotte and had 20 children, including his son Arthur Joseph Cote [born in Lewiston, ME 1926] marrying Francoise Bougie and had 4 children, including his son Paul Cote [born in Hartford, CT in 1956] who married Brenda Goyette and had 5 children, including me, Paul A. Cote, Jr [born in Lewiston, ME Oct 13, 1976]. I only show that Magloire moved, and someone in the family said that Magloire's parents were: Felix Cote [born 1803 Quebec] Delehite Lizotte [born 1809 in Quebec]. The parents of Felix Cote was listed in a family book as Joseph Cote [1772 France] and Assie Euob [1777 Germany] and a question to another child from this couple. There has been question to the popular belief from the family that our line arrived after Jean Coste, who introduced the Cote line to Canada in the 1600's. So I am looking for help, any genealogists or anyone with some experience in these topics. I am thinking that maybe my line may connect to the Cote line in France to Jean Coste but not from the Canada branch but another line. Note: I cite my sources and take pride in my research, giving credit to people that do research/documents, pictures etc,and do not believe that research should be sold outside of the family line. You may use information I post, but do not publish it as your own without citing sources. I find this a never ending issue with online genealogy and Genealogy Websites online that asks for your information and than compile CD's to sell. Wrong wrong wrong. Take pride in your research and take pride in your surname. It's your voice, your legacy, your life do not let theft and greed steal it from you. :) *In Marriages and births of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Minneapolis 1851-1858[Ray Miller raymil@ncis.com] **From the History of Hennepin County: Town of Plymouth. Is the index for the 1861 census available on line somewhere? I am looking for Elie/Ellie Gauthier wife Agnes. Thank you, Donna
Hello, Just an FYI that I discovered last fall that there were two LAMOTHE (sp?) sisters who migrated down to Massachusetts in the very early 1900's. One of them married within a year or so in the Springfield, MA, area. After her husband's death, she remarried .. to my grandfather, Silas "Dean" LEWIS, in the same area. This was his 3rd marriage. Because of a recent move to a new home, I do not have ready access to my boxes of genealogy papers. But, I believe I posted my findings on this List. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) P.S. Don't forget to check the Archives of the Lists you belong to. Sometimes your surname (s) gets mentioned and you didn't notice. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gary Boivin" <gboivin@telusplanet.net> To: <QUEBEC-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 06, 2005 12:31 PM Subject: Fw: {not a subscriber} Marriage HEBERT & LaMOTHE? > Forwarded by List Administrator... > Please respond to the list > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "John Brown" <john_brown@ncf.ca> > To: <Quebec-Research-L@rootsweb.com> > Cc: <Quebec-L@rootsweb.com>; <Quebec-Fr-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Wednesday, January 05, 2005 4:54 PM > Subject: {not a subscriber} Marriage HEBERT & LaMOTHE? > > > > Greetings & Salutations: > > > > Could someone please help me clarify these marriages? > > > > I have a Joseph-Manuël HÉBERT (or HÉBERT dit Manuël) m. to Marguerite > LePELÉ-[LaMOTHE]-DesMARETS(Pierre & Catherine BOUVÊT) 03 APR 1780 > Trois-Rivières. > > Joseph seems to have remarried to Marguerite CORMIER-TIBIER(Jean-Marie > Angélique PROVENCHER-DuCHARME) 01 MAR 1813 Bécancour, Nicolet. > > > > I have probable parents for "Joseph-Manuël" as : > > > > Joseph & Madeleine RICHARD-BOUTIN m. 04 NOV 1771Bécancour, Nicolet. > > or > > François-Amable & Monique COULOMBE m. 24 OCT 1774 Bécancour, Nicolet. > > > > Another problem that I have come acrooss is that I have also a 2nd > marriage for Marguerite LePELÉ-[LaMOTHE]-DesMARETS(same parents as above] > remarrying François-Mathurin BRIÈRE 18 NOV 1805 Cap-de-la-Madeleine?>Did he > remarry to a "Clothilde ARSENEAULT"(parents unknown) 22 OCT 1813? > > > > Are there 2 "Marguerite's" to parents Pierre & Catherine BOUVÊT? > > Does someone have any death/burial dates for any of the above? > > > > TTYL............*<;o{O} > > john_brown@freenet.carleton.ca > > > > «·´`·.(*·.¸(`·.¸ ¸.·´)¸.·*).·´`·» > > «·´¨*·.¸¸.* *.¸¸.·*¨`·» > > CARPE DIEM > > «·´¨*·.¸¸.* *.¸¸.·*¨`·» > > «·´¨*·.¸¸.* *.¸¸.·*¨`·» > > > > > > > > > > ______________________________
Good Afternoon, I placed this same email on the Quebec list in 2003 and I am still looking for answers! Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated. I had a few replies before with an offer or two to do a little research for me, but nothing worked out in the long run as we lost contact with each other. Hopefully someone else might be able to offer some help. I would be willing to pay someone to do some research for me Nan Clark Grafton, Wisconsin USA Here is the original email with a few minor changes. Nothing has been discovered since 2003! It's a really huge, sometimes overwhelming, brick wall! ! :) NC Greetings from Wisconsin USA! I was wondering if anyone might know of sks or a professional researcher who could look up this family in Quebec for me. I would be most happy to pay someone to see if he/she could research this family for me - i.e. marriage of Catherine BERO and Joseph JOSEY, baptisms and names of their children and any other details such as deaths and/or burials of family members. If you would want any more information - i.e. research done and details - please let me know and I would most glad to send it to you. Specifically, I am looking for the parents of my GGrandfather, Michael JOSEY - aka Michel JOYAL - and it's very possible that the BERO/JOSEY family listed below in the death document might be just the family I am looking for. I have just recently paid a researcher to look all over the Stormont, Dundee, and Glengarry county churches, including those that were in Mille Roches, now covered by the St. Lawrence Seaway. Michael's first wife, Hannah PHILLIPS was from Milles Roche/Moulinette area. This "clue" below is almost my last hope to locate this family as I have researched in Belleville and Hastings County where he and his first wife, Hannah PHILLIPS JOSEY were living in the 1851 census. My thinking is that this Joseph (below) could be Michael JOSEY'S brother as "my" Michael was supposedly born ca mid 1820s and died in 1908 in Wisconsin - time frame close to Joseph (below). I realize that this death certificate says Joseph was born in Cornwall and there IS a Joseph JOSEY family there, but "my" Michael most certainly could have been born in Quebec before the family moved to Ontario Please would someone see if he or she could give me some help on this family? As I have said before, I would be VERY happy to pay someone to do this research for me. Living in Wisconsin makes it rather impossible to research for myself in Quebec - much as I would love to! Thank you for any help you can give to me. Nan Clark This was in the PRs for Cornwall, Stormont County Deaths #029769. Renee, Yes, another error! How easy it is. Therese was born Therese David, married Massé Martin in 1678, and then Jacob Marsac 12 June of 1706 in Montreal, just weeks before the convoy left for Detroit in late June. Thank you. I also see an error in my earlier post in calling Jacob Marsac dit Lhommetrou, dit Desrosiers. That was a momentary goof in memory. His other dit name was _Desrochers_. And Therese David's marriage to Marsac was in June of 1706, not in April. A reminder not to trust to memory! Suzanne In a message dated 1/5/2005 11:09:21 AM Eastern Standard Time, rcummi1123@rogers.com writes: Hi Sue I'm a little confused by your answer. Previouly you wrote this Therese David, age forty, who, as widow Masse Martin,[18] had just married (en face de l'eglise) soldier Jacob Marsac dit Lhommetrou, also dit Desrosiers. Therese left behind a child born in November of 1704 to her and Marsac, a child who died that fall of 1706. This child was not, though, the product of any casual dalliance. Although Therese David was not married to Marsac in church until June of 1706, her marriage contract was signed not on 25 June 1706, as Jette indicates, but two years earlier, on 25 June 1704. The marriage did not occur then because Marsac was about to leave to fight the English "nos Ennemies". Since the marriage could not be solemnized until his return, and since on such a voyage God could withdraw him from this world, "dieu le Retirer de Ce monde", Marsac willed Therese David all his worldly goods. Their son Jacques was born 26 and baptized 27 November 1704 at Montreal; he was buried 5 October 1706, also at Montreal.[19] Therese David's daughter Marie-Therese Martin had married Louis Haguenier 17 February 1705 at Montreal and given birth to a daughter on 3 December 1705, who was buried on the 30th. It is possible Jacques Marsac was left in the care of his half-sister. This community is awesome:o) I do have one question about the information I would like to have resolved. One source stated Vital Sarrazin was b: 4 Feb 1720 and d:25 Nov 1720 then another shows him b. 5 Feb 1720 and married 9 Sep 1776 in Detroit, Michigan. Can anyone confirm which of these is correct? Thank you for all your help, Pam In Texas Pam, The Vital Sarrazin dit Depeltaux who married Cecille de Marsac (Francois & Therese Campau) was the son of deceased Vital Sarrasin & deceased Marguerite Leduc. He is recorded on the marriage record as of the parish of Lachine, at present a tradesman / voyageur of this city, Detroit. _This_ Francois Marsac is the son of Jacob Marsac and Therese Martin [correct this to Therese David, widow Martin] , the couple I wrote about in an earlier post (on Jean Soutiere). Francois was baptized at Fort Pontchartrain on 22 October 1706, within months of his parents' arrival there in August. Therese was thus pregnant during the voyage from Montreal in the large convoy of settlers and soldiers in 1706. Francois Marsac married Therese Campau 18 May 1734 at Fort Pontchartrain. Therese is the daughter of another of the early founding families of Detroit, daughter of Jacques Campau and Cecile Catin. And, as Linnie pointed out, Detroit was very much part of New France until the British claimed it officially in 1763; and it was part of Canada until 11 July 1796, when U. S. troops took over the city and raised the flag. Colonial John Hamtramck arrived on 13 July 1796 to be the first commander. He was born in Quebec and his mother was a French-Canadian, but he fought for the Americans in the Revolutionary War.
