HI Jude, Do you have a CHARLES WESCOM and Victoria RIVERS marriage in your research? They were my father's great grandparents I believe married in Eden, VT. but the records of 1800's apparently burned. Now that's where I get lost when trying to find origins. Harriet
G. E. Stuart McLeod moved to Knowlton, Quebec from Montreal in the 1950's and died there in 1971. His obituary stated he had two sons and five grandchildren. He was born in Saint John, New Brunswick in the 1890's. He served in the RAF during World War I. I wish to get in contact with his descendants. Ruby

Henri William King and Ernestine Boire were the parents of Henry W. Boire who was born in Waterloo in April of 1916. The younger Henry was later adopted by his aunt Anna Girard and her husband Joseph Kooken. The younger Henry whose last name was legally changed to Kooken was baptized in Boston MA about three months after his birth. At some point, Ernestine Boire left Canada for the US and she ultimately settled in Boston. I don't believe that Henri W. King accompanied Ernestine to the US. I'm wondering if there is any indication of a later marriage of Henri William King to an unknown spouse in Waterloo between 1916 and the early 1920's. Henri was born in the early 1890's as near as I can determine. Thanks for any advice or information. Ed O'Connor Hudson,MA
Hi Dave; The PRDH always spells Josephte as Josephe. You can decide to do the same. But in my experience, I've seen Josephte as the recognized spelling in church documents more often than the other spelling, even though in notarial documents that I've consulted, it seems the notaries did otherwise. I've even seen the name spelled "Joseph", same as the spelling for a man's name in some notarial documents even when a woman was the subject. I've adopted the Josephte spelling in my FTW data base, as it seems that it was the more recognized version, (at least in the church records I've consulted) which eventually became Josette today (in most cases),as that seems to be the way it was pronounced. However, in my notes I usually mention the way it was spelled in the original document. As for Josephite, I don't recall having seen that name. But that doesn't necessarily mean anything, as I'm not an expert in the matter. Might be a mispelling for Josephine. Is there any way to determine whether a marriage record exists in Waterloo, Quebec in regards to the marriage of Henry W. Boire(Boaire) and Febronia(sp) Girard ? I believe that Febronia's middle name was Corinne and she may have been known by that name. Henry was born on or about August 20, 1871 somewhere in Quebec while Febronia/Corinne was born abt 1878 in Waterloo, Quebec. Henry and Febronia had at least two children, Ernestine born about 1895 or 1896 and Leona who was born on February 18, 1898. Both daughters were born in Waterloo, Quebec. I'm also looking to determine whether there is a marriage record for Henry's parents, Alphonse Boire(Boaire) and Matilda Lyle. That marriage may have occurred about 1870 in Quebec but I don't know the specific location. Thanks in advance for any advice. Ed O'Connor Hudson,Massachusetts
Hi; I am new to this list. While I am not new to genealogy (began 1977); I am new to Quebec research. I have a record of a marriage performed on Drummond Island, Michigan at the time it still belonged to Canada. The record, written in French says that the groom, Pierre Giroux is the major son of Jean Baptiste Giroux and Francoise Laport who are natives of paroime (parrish?) St. Philippe of Quebec. I do not speak French and can only pick out certain words in the records. This Pierre had a son named Pierre Giroux bn. sometime between 1815-1819. Pierre Giroux Jr. was married in 1836 in Penetanguishene, Ont. In 1889 he renewed his wedding vows with his wife of 53 years and on that 2nd wedding record, Pierre Giroux Jr. states that he was born 15th or 19th (hard to make out) of Jan. 1815. It is possible that the year if off somewhat and possibly could be later. I can find no record of his baptism on Drummond Island, but records there are few. They did not have a priest, except for one that traveled and might stop on the island every 8 years or so. The father, Pierre Giroux Sr. married Charlotte Spenard in 1826. It is possible that Pierre Giroux Jr. is her son, but he was not bapt. at the time of the marriage. Pierre Giroux Jr.'s marriage record says he is the son of Pierre Giroux of Marie no last name. I am thinking it is possible, as this was often done with men of the fur trade as Pierre Giroux Sr. was, that he took his child back to his home Parrish to be baptized. How do I go about seeing if there is a record for the baptism of Pierre Giroux Jr. in St.Philippe records. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Cindy
Bon jour, Hello I need suggestions re: death or burial for Allan (Donald) Cameron. Born abt. 1800, lived in Odelltown in 1851, and died before April 1884. Wife is buried at Clarenceville but he has not been found there. He was not found in 1861 census in Odelltown, Lacolle, or there about. One son, also named Allan, lived at Kingsey but father did not live with him. Older Allan not in Kingsey cemeteries. Merci, Thank you Judith

I am researching my mothers paternal line, surname Goyette. The records I have show that my mother’s great great grandfather Antoine Goyette married Julie Racine, daughter of Pierre Racine & Julie Fortin, at Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire, St. Hyacinthe, Quebec on October 15, 1860. Can someone clue me to the migration routes of people that moved from Vercheres at that time to Maine. The Racine’s were from Vercheres, Quebec. I am interested in the travel routes that immigrants might have taken at that time, did they go via ship or in groups? What might be some resources in the Vercheres area or any other relatives. Antoine and Julie lived in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec prior to 1902, than was in Maine in 1902. His children Antoine [1861], Ezilda [1864], Louis [1864], Oliva [1866], Alphonse [1877], Melvina [1879], Emile [1880] Goyet. I have the descendants for Alphonse Goyette, my great great grandfather. But would like to get more information. Alphonse Goyette married first married Marie Artange Faucher, than Alphonsine Morin and had ? children, including son Lucien Goyette [born in Lewiston July 6, 1902] marrying Germaine Cailler, daughter of Ernest and Alphonsine Morin and had 14 children, including his son Robert Ernest Goyette [May 14, 1937] marrying Helen Gooldrup and had 11 children, including his daughter Brenda Goyette [born in Lewiston, ME in 1958] who married Paul Cote and had 5 children, including me, Paul A. Cote, Jr [born in Lewiston, ME Oct 13, 1976]. I show that Antoine moved from Vercheres to Maine, and that Antoine's parents were: Joseph Goyette [born 1786 Vercheres] and Marie Menard [born 1780 in Vercheres]. The parents of Joseph are Francois Dominque Goyette and Charlotte Pacquet-Lavallee [1860’s Vercheres, Quebec]. Popular belief from the family is that our line is stemmed from Pierre Goguet & Louise Garnier in Aunis, France, in the early 1600‘s, who introduced the Goguet line to Canada in the 1600's. So I am looking for help, any genealogists or anyone with some experience in these topics. Sincerely, Paul A. Cote, Jr 20 Howe Street Lewiston, ME 04240

Hi Linda; You must be referring to the convent run by the Sisters of Ste Anne (Les Soeurs de Sainte-Anne). The first convent was built in 1864 to provide schooling to young girls. Then a new expanded convent was built in 1904, when it could accommodate 357 students of which 152 were boarders. It was integrated with the public school system some time about 1970 or so. Hope this is what you were looking for. If you want more info. doen't hesitate to write direct and I'll see if I can find it for you. Frank P.S. By coincidence, a first cousin of my mother was boarding there between 1901 and 1910. Her parents were then living in Skagway, Alaska. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda Maitland" <lindamaitland@telus.net> To: <QUEBEC-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 17, 2005 11:01 PM Subject: [QUEBEC] Convent School in Laurentians > > Does anyone know the name of a French convent boarding school for girls that > was in St-Jerome in the 1910s? > > Linda Maitland nee Maguire > White Rock (Vancouver),BC
To all:- Political preferences should not matter when a bill is presented in either the Senate of Canada or the House of Commons, but however, this seems to be the case re Bill S-18. Read Hansard excerpts at http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/index.htm Bill S-18 is a government bill, therefore must be introduced and sponsored by members of the Liberal Party -- Senator Lorna Milne is the sponsor in the Senate. WHEN Bill S-18 reaches the House of Commons, the Hon. David Emerson will introduce Bill S-18 with the Hon. Don Boudria as sponsor or one who receives all the House of Commons petitions, answers questions and all the formality for First, Second and Third Reading.
