My Stempel/Stemple, family was from Quakertown and from Horsham. The earliest record I have for them is Benjamen Stemple and Elizabeth Menely being allowed to marry in 1776.Benjamen's father was Leonard Stempel and Elizabeth's father was ? Menely. According to another family member a second Benjamin named after his grand father ran away from home about 1815 after his step mother was mean to him. The step mother was a Boucher from Philadelphia. I descend from the second Benjamin who ended up in the Tobyhanna area and married into the Place family. They then moved to Tunkhannock , Pa about 1820. The Stemple family remained in the Horsham meeting for several more generations my branch changed their name to Stemples and became Methodist. Would this be reported in the Horsham meeting? If a child runs away would the Church document this? Benjamin Stemples never saw his family again until he was 30 years old. Linda
