According to the certificate of transference that the immigrant John Allen brought with him from Dublin, Ireland (transcribed in "The Allen Family, Descendants of John & Amy Cox Allen" etc), the immigrant John Allen was the son of John Allen, deceased. I've never seen mention of a brother who came to America, although (stretching my memory here) a James Allen was in the area about the same time. Also according to the book, it was a tradition that the first son of a John Allen had to be named John as well. My husband descends from John & Amy Cox Allen, then John & Phebe (Scarlett) Allen, John & Rachel (Stout) Allen, then John & Dinah (Stuart) Allen before we lose the "John." If I remember correctly, John & Dinah had a son John, he just doesn't happen to my husband's direct ancestor. Since I live on the west coast, it's not going to be easy to get to these houses, although I hope to get back east one day when we retire. Hope these are all still standing by then.
