I am looking for proof for the parents of Rebecca Cox. It is a matter of record that Rebecca Cox was daughter of Richard Cox, but there seems to have been more than one, all of whom were members of the Society of Friends The most likely one, I think, is the Richard Cox below. Rebecca was married 5 Oct 1750, at her father's house in Warrington Monthly Meeting, York Co, PA, to William Osborn, born in 1725, son of Mathew Osborn and Isabella Dodson Bibliography Ancestry and Descendants of Jehu Cox Wayne D Stout, Cox Family in America,” by Rev Henry Miller Cox, NY Thomas Cox, son of John and Rachel Cox, was born in England, and came with his parents to America in 1708. He was married 2d 9m 1722, to Elizabeth Fincher, daughter of John Fincher and Martha Taylor. In 1730 he was married/2 to Mary Cook, who was born 22 March 1709, daughter of Peter Cook and Elinor Norman. Chn: 1. Rebecca Cox, m in 1740 to James Frazier 2. Isaac Cox, m in 1746 to Olive Underwood, d/o Alexander Underwood and Jane Harry 3. Elizabeth Cox 4. Mary Cox 5. Thomas Cox, married in 1771, to Thamer Davis, in Craven Co, SC, d/o Charles Davis and Hannah Matson Thanks for any helpT 6. Peter Cox 7. Harmon Cox, and others Can anyone confirm or add to this? Thanks for any help. Billie Lee Smith
No guarantees & it is not proof but the Family Group Sheets that I have in the Quaker Collection represent the best current thinking of a number of advanced Cox Family researchers. According to my Quaker Cox database, the Rebecca Cox in whom you are interested was the dau of Richard Cox (b.ca.1686) & Elizabeth Scarlett. The younger man Richard Cox (b.ca.1750) unfortunately omitted from your query was Rebecca's cousin, the son of Thomas Cox & 2nd wife Mary Cook, and he married Ann Hodgin at Wrightsborough MM,GA in 1774. Richard Cox, son of William & Amy http://home.sprynet.com/~jrichmon/cox0698.htm Thomas Cox, son of William & Amy http://home.sprynet.com/~jrichmon/cox0252.htm father of the younger Richard Cox of York co,PA John Cox (b.ca.1666, Drayton, Berkshire) & wife Rachel came to Newark MM, New Castle co,DE in 1708. They did not have a son Thomas. Their children were these: [1] John Cox Jr (b.ca.1686) marr. 1720 Hannah Jenkins [2] Richard Cox (b.ca.1690) marr. 1712 [1] Margaret Potts marr. ca.1729 [2] Mary ---- [3] Joseph Cox (b.ca.1692) marr. ca.1716 Maria Vanderveer [4] Sarah Cox (b.ca.1694) marr. ca.1712 Richard Leech Some of this data is based on the published research of William B Fetters which was discussed at some length, several years ago on Q-R. Unfortunately for a good many years, many researchers attributed every Cox in sight as the offspring of John & Rachel with little or no substantive proof or research.
