This pertains to a mailing from Jean Leeper dated 2/04/2004 in which she asks where Linden MM was located. Linden Meeting was located in the town of Linden in Linn Township, Dallas County, Iowa. It is only a mile or two from the Guthrie County, IA border. Linden Meeting was organized in 1882, apparently as a Preparative Meeting of Linn Monthly Meeting, which also included East Linn Meeting which evidently met in a schoolhouse near the East Linn Cemetery, a mile or more north of the town of Redfield, Iowa. East Linn Meeting seems to have been of short duration, and the Monthly Meeting continued as Linden Monthly Meeting centered at Linden. Linden Monthly Meeting was laid down in 1949. I believe that the meetinghouse has been remodeled as a private dwelling. Linden Monthly Meeting was affiliated with Bear Creek Quarterly Meeting of Iowa Yearly Meeting (FUM). In my files I have the following item reported by J. H. Mills in his column, "East Linn Record", for the weekly edition of the _Redfield Record_, published at Redfield, Iowa , Jan. 11, 1884: The Friends of Linn held their regular monthly meeting at the schoolhouse on Saturday, a good turnout and an interesting time was had. Preachers J. M. Coffin and Abel Holloway with our Samuel for good measure. The "Samuel" to whom reference was made seems to have been Samuel Hockett, a Friends minister and pastor, with family connections with the Hocketts of Salem Friends Meeting in Henry County, Iowa. - Herbert Standing, Earlham, Iowa.
