Violet Moore Guy, Unfortunately (from my point of view), the Nantucket Meetings deposited most of their records with the Nantucket Historical Society and only a portion of the records were microfilmed by the Genealogical Society of Utah. Here is the reference to the three Nantucket Island monthly meetings in my web site: http://www.quakermeetings.com/search_display?MeetingName=Nantucket&Count y=&StateOrProvince=Mass&generalSearchWord= [two-line URL] I heard once that the Nantucket Historical Society made microfilm copies for the New England YM archives at the Rhode Island Historical Society of the large records deposit in the 1940s but no longer allows microfilming. Because I do no people genealogy, I cannot state the scope of the LDS microfilm coverage on reels 014776-79, 909501-04, and 912137-42. Tom Thomas C. I subscribe to QUAKER-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com, so searched their Archives to find you. Where/How do I obtain the Quaker Records for NANTUCKET MM, NANTUCKET, MA? I descend from most of the Original Settlers, especially Line D - LT. John Coffin, s/o Tristram & Diones (Stevens) Coffin; and from William and Priscilla (Paddock) Coffin, whose records were transferred in 1773 to New Garden MM, Guilford Co., NC. I need to find these people in Nantucket records, if possible. Thank you. Violet Moore Guy vmguy@gmpexpress.net 12/09/2004
Hi Violet, Tom and all, As you probably know, birth, marriage, death records from the Society of Friends were included in the printed Vital Records of Nantucket to 1850 books. These are noted with C.R.4. But maybe you want something more. As I did awhile back. I was looking for more information, trying to prove who the parents were of the Abial Brown who married Silvanus Hussey 7th, 12 mo. 1711/12. I was hoping there might be something in the meeting minutes. (All secondary sources say she is descended from a string of 3 John Browns of Salem. But I can't seem to prove this.) After consulting Mr. Hill's book and the film's descriptions on the LDS web site, I got film #0909502. As I recall, it seemed to be kind of a hodge-podge of various records and I don't think it had the meeting minutes where marriage intentions were recorded. I haven't tried the other films, yet; and would be interested if anyone knows if any of the other ones might have what I'm looking for. One futher note: I got the impression from what I did find that Silvanus may not have become a Quaker until his second marriage (to Hephzibah Starbuck). So, my search may be in vain.
