I am going through some of the land transactions that I looked at while visiting NC two weeks ago. The following is from a book called: Randolph County North Carolina Deed Abstracts Books 1 thru 5 1779-1794 Volume I by Barbara Newsom Grigg Rt. 2 Box 458 Ashboro, NC 27203 I have made a note to myself that Abraham Elliott, Jr. seems to have lived on Polecat Creek--also Joseph Elliot and Abraham Sr. and John Elliott Here is the entry that I am hoping someone can interpret for me: 5;19, 11 Sept. 1792---James Alexander to Daniel Dawson, both of Guilford County, for 150 pds. 150 a. in Randolph Co. being 1/2 the tract whereon his father, George Alexander formerly lived on Polecat waters and both sides the Trading Road adj. Benjamin Beeson & Jacob Elliot, crossing the Old Orange Co. line. Signed James Alexander, Wit: John Coe, Isaac Causey It is Jacob Elliott that I am interested in....and this seems to narrow down just exactly where he lived better than any of the land transactions that I have looked at. Is there a place that I can look at a map to see where the Trading Road and the Old Orange County line would be? I have a map that shows me the area where Polecat Creek is located. It seems to be just west of Ashboro. Was Ashboro on the Trading Road? I have looked at the animap images of the creation of Guilford and Randolph and it is somewhat confusing. It looks to me as if Guilford was formed from part of Rowan and part of Orange with both giving up some of their territory and then Randoph was created from Guilford. Is my interpretation correct? It is my gut feeling that my Jacob Elliott bought land in 1764 in Rowan County....then lived in Guilford and finally Randolph without ever moving off of his original property on Polecat Creek. Is my thinking valid?
Marsha I believe you are probably correct. I have Lamb families that lived in North Carolina and Tennessee that never moved at all.
