There is a Henry Maddock mentioned on page 851 of volume 5 of /Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy/ (Elk Run, Ohio, Monthly Meeting). He was born 1813,11,8, son of "Nathan, Preble Co., O., s Samuel, dec, & Rachel, m Sarar ------". "Nathan m 2nd 1817,11,10 at Elk Mtg, Martha Mendenhall, Preble Co., O., wd Elijah, dt William & Ann Miller". An entry dated 1812,11,7 states "Sarah & ch, Joseph & John, rec in mbrp", so evidently before that date, they were not members. On the same page an entry dated 1833,7,20 states "Henry con mou", which means Henry Maddock appeared before the meeting to apologize for having married a non-member. Usually someone making such an apology would retain membership. Further down, still on the same page, is an entry dated 1856,4,24: "Henry & w Phebe, gct Salem MM, IA." Gct (granted certificate to) would indicate a transfer of membership. On page 828 of the same volume, (still in the Elk Run MM section) we find the family of "Richard [Brown], s Mercer & Sarah, b 1767,10,2; m Mary Embree, dt John & Sarah, b 1769,5,27". Among their children is Phebe, b 1811,3,29. On page 830 we find that "Phebe Maddock (form Brown) con mou" on 1833, 6,15. Page 426 (Newberry, Ohio MM) shows a list of children of Richard and Susannah Puckett, including Tamer, b 1835,12,2. On page 1044 of volume 1 of EAQG (Wrightsborough, Georgia MM) we find an entry giving the birth dates of the children of Samuel and Rachel Maddock, which include "Nathan b 8-10-177-[torn]" It seems likely this should be 1778, as the date above is 2-23-1777, and the one following is 12-19-1779. Susannah Beals married Richard Puckett in 1829 at White River MM, Randolph County, Indiana. Records there also show that Katherine Beals and daughters Susannah, Elizabeth, Hannah, and Mahala were received into membership on 10-15-1828 on certificate from Newberry MM, Ohio. Evidently this is from the minutes of the women's meeting, for Newberry minutes (EAQG 5:373) show that on 1828,7,24, a certificate was issued to White River for "Catharine & ch, Susannah, Elizabeth, Samuel, Amos, Mahala, Rachel, & Daniel". On the same page we see a marriage on 1827,2,1 between Jacob Beals, son of Daniel and Katherine of Clinton County, Ohio, and Charity Hockett. EAQG 5:221 (Fairfield MM, Ohio) shows two entries dated 1808,1,30. The first shows that Daniel Beals, the younger, was disowned for marriage contrary to discipline. The second shows that Katherine Beals condemned her marriage contrary to discipline. EAQG 1:1043 (Wrightsborough MM, Georgia) shows the family of Mercer and Sarah Brown, including son Richard, b 10m-2-1767. 1:1047 shows that on 1785,3,5, Mercer and Sarah Brown were received on certificate from Fairfax MM, VA, sent on by Bush River MM. EAQG 6:476 (Fairfax MM, Virginia) says of Mercer/Messer Brown: "b 7-5-1740; rem[oved] to S.C. 1784; s of Richard and Mary (Norton) Brown, of Fairfax MM, Va.; rpd 1mo-1764 as being engaged to a young woman not a mbr of our society, was precautioned & left for a trip to Carolina; she met him on the way & they were m by a Priest; he was dis 31-3-1764." In 1770, he regained his membership, and his wife and three children (including Richard) became members as well. The full minute was posted to quaker-roots in 2000: <http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/QUAKER-ROOTS/2000-11/0974174113> On the next page we find an account of Richard Brown "b 31-1(Mar)-1693 O.S. d 10-2(Apr)-1745 O.S., s Wm, the Immigrant, by his 2nd ws, Ann (Mercer) Brown, dec, West Nottingham, Md." He married 3 times, his third being on "14-8(Oct) 1733 O.S., at W. Nottingham, Md., Mary Norton, dt Edward, dec, of Co. Armagh, Ireland". EAQG 1:1019 (Bush River MM) shows the family of John and Mary Embree, including Mary, b 5-27-1769. According to Robert Ambler's /Embree Footprints/, this John Embree was born in 1721 in New Jersey, son of Moses and Mary () (Spragg) Embree. (Ambler quotes Little Egg Harbor MM, NJ, birth records.) Moses Embree was born at Hempstead, New York, son of Moses and Mary Embree. Moses, Sr., born at Stamford, Fairfield County, Connecticut, on 16 Dec 1652, was in turn son of Robert and and Mary (Bassett) Embree. Ambler makes a stong case that Mary Bassett was born at Stamford, Lincolnshire, England 21 Dec 1617, daughter of John and Margery Bassett.
