    3. Hello Listers; I am interested in the NORCROSS family and their relationship to the PENN family. William Norcross resided in Alston-cum-Hothersall, Ribchester Parish, Lancashire, England. He emigrated in May 1699, with other Quakers on the ship 'Britannia" to America. He intended to settle in Bensalem Township, Bucks County, PA, but apparently died on he way or shortly after arriving, as the ship was infested with smallpox. He left four children: John, Jane, William and Thomas. They and his wife, Elizabeth, lived on land given to them by Leonard Fells: 500 acres in Bensalem Township. His will gave 60 acres to each of his children and the balance to his wife. If she remarried she was to receive 40 pounds and the balance was to be divided among his children. The will was witnessed by Richard Smith, Gabriel Barnes and Jonathan Cowper. The son John (b. 1690) married Mary Antrim (b. 1692) of Springfield Twp., Burlington, NJ. They had six children: Elizabeth, John, Joseph, Mary, Frances and William. John Died in Burlington County, NJ. His son William Norcross (1724-1773) married Tamar Hough (1722-1774) and had 11 children: Bathsheba, Uriah, Susannah, John, Mary, Mercy, Ruth Tamar, Rachel, Samuel, Bernice and George. New Jersey Genesis vol 13 page 570 #4 (July 1966): As early as March 1759 William NORCROSS from Burlington County, settled in old Gloucester Township, Gloucester County, NJ. He located a survey of land and had it recorded in the Surveyor Generals Office at Burlington, West Jersey, on 6 Feb 1761. The site of this farm is about two miles southwest of Tansboro, in Winslow Township, Camden County, NJ. William built a frame meeting house on his land for use by members of the Society of Friends and adjourning it, he set aside ground for a burying place for himself and his family. It eventually became a neighborhood cemetery and has long been called New Hopewell Cemetery. This does not seem to have been an approved meeting. Ruth Tamar Norcross (1756-1837) married Thomas Penn (1751-1831). They are buried in the above mentioned cemetery. He was the son of Elizabeth Judith Alloway and James Penn Sr., who married 3 Nov 1749 at Northampton Friends Meeting, Mt. Holly NJ. James Penn Sr. is believed to be the son of William James Penn (b. ca 1704), of whom little is known. If anyone has additional information on alliances between these families, please let me know. I am trying to establish the parentage of James Penn Sr. Thanks, Carol T.
