Hello, I'm new to the list and probably will be asking questions that have been discussed before. Please excuse my ignorance. Can anyone tell me how to research Quakers in Kansas? I've been looking without success. Many thanks for any help you can give me. Margaret
Margaret, regarding your post on the QUAKER-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com where you were looking for help on researching Quakers in Kansas - I am also searching for some Quaker ancestors (David & Betsey (Scott) Rich) who moved from Union TWP, Howard Co., Indiana to Stafford Co., Kansas shortly after 1880. David died there August 15, 1895 & Betsey died there in July 1, 1889 - both are buried in the Pleasant Valley/Quaker Cemetery, Stafford, Stafford Co., KS. I have the book - Volume Four of William Wade Hinshaw Kansas Quaker Meeting Records - Monthly Meetings S - W. If you can list a few names I will gladly see if I can find them in my book. ********************************************************* For any one interested: From: "ETCHED IN STONE" TOMBSTONE INSCRIPTIONS OF STAFFORD COUNTY, KANSAS PLEASANT VALLEY CEMETERY NE1/4 SEC 32 TWP 24 R 11 Fairview Township Pleasant Valley Cemetery is fenced and well kept. This cemetery was copied 1989 and a final check was made 10 October 1990. The Pleasant Valley Cemetery is located from Stafford two miles south then three and one half miles east. This cemetery is located on the south side of the road on a small hill. The Pleasant Valley Cemetery was once in the church yard of the Friends Church which is now gone. The two acres of land were donated by Alson R. & Elizabeth Wall in 1889. The land was donated for use as a church and cemetery. It was stipulated that after the church was gone the land was to continue being used as a public burial ground. This cemetery is in Cemetery District #1 and is not actively used. The last known burial was in 1908. It is possible that some of these graves have been moved to other larger cemeteries. The following Memorial Markers remain.
