Judy: Am I right in assuming that by Fred Co., MD, you mean Fredrick County, MD?. My John & Mary Ann (McDonald) Darnall, both born in Charles Co., MD (the Fedual colony of the Catholic CALVERTs went from Charles Co., MD>Fredrick County, MD>Washington Co. PA -- this seemed quite common during the Revolutionary War era. As I understand, this area was disputed lands between VA, MD & PA with some breaking off from VA into W. VA and even KY. In fact, my Darnalls & related families went from Fredrick Co., MD to Washington Co., PA to Kentucky (formerly, VA), as did many others for Revolutionary War land grants. ************ Some of those in Fredrick Co., MD were Quakers, others were Bretherin & Menninites. http://www.rootsweb.com/~quakers/ The Quakers at "Monoquesey" Excerpts from "Pioneers of Old Monocacy: The Early Settlement of Frederick Co., Maryland 1721-1743 by Grace L. (The "John Darnall" mentioned in this article is not my ancestor, but is probably of the Darnall Family, who were Overseers of Lord Baltimore (a title and there were six of them , Calverts -- the First English Colony in Maryland, the "Arc & the Dove", 1634.)
