On our certificate I have signatures of my nieces and nephews who were very young children, so I know my relatives signed for them, making sure they were part of the official record as having attended the ceremony, mostly out in the hall when they got noisy! That was in the 1970's, but perhaps the thinking was the same in the 1670's as well?
