I was not familiar with the Elwood Meeting/cemetery, so looked to see if I could find anything about it in Willard Heiss' published info of the records of Friends Meetings (mostly) in Indiana. He also includes some from meetings just over the line into another state, which were affiliated with Indiana Meetings. In Vol. 5 of his " ....Records of the Society of Friends in Indiana" there is a lot of birth/death/minutes information from Vermillion Meeting, which was located in Vermillion Co, Illinois. He also has info listed in the same volume from Hopewell Meeting, which is in Vermillion Co, Indiana, and from Honey Creek Meeting in Vigo Co, IN. These Meetings, in a small geographical area, seemed to overlap and interact as they were set up, set off, etc. My guess is you would find families that are listed in more than one of these meetings. Hopefully Tom Hill or Dan Treadway will fill us in on why Elwood is not listed in Williard's books of records--maybe it is just because he never found/or was given access to the Elwood Meeting minutes. Some should exist since apparently the Meeting still exists. As Willard told the story to me, he had to argue with some force to get Vermilion MM included in the abstracts of the Indiana Quaker records, as the Indiana Historical Society was insistent on INDIANA publishing. Until Hopewell MM was set off from Vermilion in 1873, Vermilion included some Indiana members, which justified its inclusion. But I don't think that Elwood ever did. My wife and I photographed some pre-1900 markers at Elwood in 1996, which we would be glad to share if that would be helpful.
